In the eyes of a relative of mine, her son could do no wrong. She created a spoiled brat who grew up to be a jerk -- no self-discipline or respect for authority. His personal relationships were disasters. He could not keep a job. He died young. While I believe that everyone is ultimately responsible for his own behavior, this boy's mom's lack of parenting contributed to his demise.

Folks, this is exactly what liberal black leaders and liberal whites having been doing to blacks: refusing to hold us accountable for destructive behavior and making excuses for us.

Real compassion is honestly dealing with the issues plaguing the black community rather than so-called advocates (Democrats and the MSM) using our dysfunction for their political and financial gain.

An important read - and much needed hope for the black community...

One philosophy of mine which I've not seen stated elsewhere, but which I think is very important, is "Strive to do unto others slightly better than they deserve." While society would fall into decay if people always strove to give others exactly what they deserved (unintentional slights would not be forgiven, but would accumulate until people refused to deal with each other), treating people too much better than they deserve can often be more harmful than would be treating them unjustly badly. Sometimes treating people much better than they deserve may be easier than holding them accountable for their actions, but the cases where doing so is the easiest course of action are often the ones where it is most harmful.

All too often liberals suggest "What's the harm in XXX?" and conservatives have no answer. I would suggest that certain kinds of "charity" are analogous to a person who fertilizes all the plants in his yard including the weeds. For the time being, the person may be using only his own resources to feed the weeds, and the person may have no intention of imposing on anyone else, but even if the person has no intention of forcing anyone else to feed his weeds, that doesn't mean his weeds won't force other people to feed them.
