I don’t know, maybe there was something Biblical going on here.

How bizarre.
A few years ago an SUV with four women drove off the roadway in Newark NJ into the Passaic River; they called 911 as the SUV filled with water but nobody (including them) knew exactly where they were (all 4 drowned).

Somehow it reminds me of trying to save Detroit.

Sad, but Darwin Award candidates for sure.

This is tragic. An emergency glass hammer under $20.00 and they would be alive.

A tragedy no doubt, but we're clearly seeing what happens to airheads when they venture away from the mall.
I've taken chicks camping before who can't find their way around Target, much less around the woods.
I had one that went down and filled her waders up in a 3-foot wide and deep trout stream.
I had to risk my own life to save hers as she was headed downstream submerged.
Never again.

I don’t understand. Their vehicle is filling up with water and they call 911. Did they think responders were going to find them before they drowned? The whole story just seems bizarre.

Going for a hike shouldn't be a death sentence. I'm so sorry for the both of them.
I am a veteran hiker and have seen a lot of newbies setting off for an adventure with little or no planning. Nature is a unforgiving mistress with very little margin for error.

What a horrible thing to happen.
I swear people are not as careful as they used to be. I watch kids running around at full speed with no care or caution from their parents. I see drivers completely immersed in texting while there cars slow down or veer of to the side of the road. I see pedestrians crossing the road without looking for cars. I see people die from these things. It is not socially correct to point out anything bad. You must never caution another. You must never threaten them with the future.
I wash my hands.

I didn't know that Maine even had a body of water that was 20 feet deep.
Most of their lakes are shallow glacier cut bird baths.
