This is CNET and as far as I know they are non-partisan and even-keeled. Hence, I think their report here is accurate. And the report is scarier than Hell.

They have accumulated too much power. They are corrupt. The power didn’t corrupt them. They were already corrupt.

Since they now have joint custody of my account, they should pay half the bill!

First they will get passwords for social media. They HATE it when someone thinks they have freedom of speech. After enough sheep have willingly allowed themselves to be [crude word for coitus] they will move up to banks and credit card accounts.

To the fellatio-performing illegitimate offspring of female dogs I say “go [crude word for coitus] yourself, eat [crude word for end product of digestion] and stare at a picture of helen thomas for 15 minutes.

a little security overview from my buddy spartacus but what he/she tells me is:

https://www.torproject.org/

download and install the latest “tor-browser” bundle. there are set ups you have to do with firefox browser.

disable java, java script, cookies in Firefox and more. Read the directions

the latest version checks anonymity at the tor site. Spartacus verifies with this other site:

www.stilllistener.com/checkpoint1 (and checkpoint2, java) to verify anonymity. Access with regular IE and with TOR. Difference in IP and anon rating? you can change servers at will. Don’t run IE and tor at the same time.

If some gov’t wants you maybe they can find you, very hard to do with this.

Spartacus likes to send email thru various anon emails, using PGP. http://www.openpgp.org Very few are really anon, especially if based in US. ixquick and duckduckgo bring some up. Hook up to them with firefox and TOR running.

receiving anon email, spartacus recommends http://www.safe-mail.net

Many sites do not work with cookies disabled. (FR included)

Your choice on risk.

to send anonymous email, go to this site with the Tor program

http://sendanonymousemail.net (haven’t checked lately, goes to spam filter usually)

A proper web firm doesn’t store its users’ passwords and therefore cannot give them out.

” I’d be banned for life if I said what I’m thinking about our so-called “representatives” in “FREAKING” Washington DC who are letting this CRAP happen...”

No you are wrong it is We the People who are allowing this to happen. As Jefferson said, “A nation deserves the leaders it has”

And my favorite goes something like this, “A people unwilling to use extreme violent force to obtain or preserve their liberty deserves the tyrants that rule them.”

Make no mistake, it is all about we the people, he also said, “When the people fear the government you have tyranny, when the government fears the people you have liberty”..

Our nation may live in darkness for a 1,000 years but God as my witness the time will come when we shall be free again...

NSA accesses users account. They impersonate him/her online. They post messages like the ones that got that other teen jailed. They then arrest the real user. Try him/her. Convict him/her. Sentence him/her to prison.

Or will it be a FEMA camp?

Good thing I don't use any such sites. Or is FR one of those sites?

If the government is able to determine a person's password, which is typically stored in encrypted form, the credential could be used to log in to an account to peruse confidential correspondence or even impersonate the user.

No no no!
This is the dummest thing the new American Reign of Terror Flying Monkeys can adopt.

After the criminal shenanigans of the State Dept, the CIA, IRS, Health and Human service and the State Department have pulled, any evidence that those flying Monkeys try to present in court, as a result of this abuse, won't be worth a bucketful of spit!

Bring
it
on!!

The minimum criteria for an email service, IMO, are:

(a) required end-to-end TLS encryption [The account is locked down. If the recipient cannot connect with a TLS secure channel after the handshake, then the delivered message is a notice that you must sign on securely to the escrow server to retrieve your encrypted message. The message is encrypted on the escrow server until accessed with a password];

(b) message headers are stripped, so that the message is shown as originating from the email service's servers. This requires a delay while the server strips and re-sends the message; and

(c) disclosure to governmental authorities must be pursuant to a court order obtained on an inter partes basis. An ex parte court order suffices only where the service's counsel is satisfied that there is an ongoing criminal investigation that would be compromised by disclosure of the action to the client.

I am not aware of a foreign-based service that meets these requirements.

What about those “security questions “?

One needs not only the password, but also the correct 2 questions and the correct 2 answers.

I'll say what I've been saying: I'm done with the GOP over stuff like this.

Not only did the Bush administration and Republicans in Congress enable the DHS stuff and the PATRIOT Act stuff, but then the Republicans under a Socialist like Obama are not trying to put an end to it.

There are a few Republicans in Congress here and there fighting against it, but after the vote this week on the NSA stuff, and the lack of action on similar issues, it's quite clear that we have a single party, some of whose members have an (D) next to their name, and some who have an (R) next to their name.

If the GOP won't defend American citizens in a time like this, they cannot be relied upon.

Let's just wholesale overturn terms of service and contract law. Obama already showed his willingness to do this with the General Motors bondholders.

Isn't someone's password considered private property, if they subscribe to an ISP and pay a monthly fee according to contractual terms of service?

So many lawsuits could result from complying with this illegal and unconstitutional request. What is the probable cause? What is the specific warrantable thing being searched for, and where is the search taking place?
