I have a Brazilian friend who had been away for about ten years. He recently went home for a family gathering, and he did mention on his return that everything had gotten VERY expensive.
It is what happens when local manufacturing is protected and coddled.
Our visiting foreign student from Russia just bought a Samsung Galaxy while she was here in the US. She said it was hundreds less than the same phone in Russia.
I have no idea why.
At the luggage check in Miami airport, you’ll see people heading south checking the most mundane household items, still in their original cartons.
It’s going to be interesting when the Olympics is held there.
I’ve been traveling regularly to Brazil for 12 years. It USED To be cheap.... no more.
I always used to stay at the Marriott near the airport in Sao Paulo. It was ~ $60 a night. Now? The LUNCH BUFFET cost $55 per person!
Another difference? 12 years ago, there were practically ZERO fat people in Brazil. Today? They almost look like Americans....
I live in Brazil. It is bad enough with the Buchananite protective tariffs making a pair of Levi’s US$90, now we have inflation again. I HATE protectionism as much as I hate government encouraged inflation.
Obamanomics is trying hard to bring such prices here.
It’s been that way for years regarding electronics and other goods in Brazil...very high prices.
And it has nothing to do with tariffs....as some of the Liberal Globalists have been claiming
Goods are cheaper in US because of our economy....more people can afford the products.....meaning more customers....the economy of scale allows companies to sell products cheaper in US
Brazil economy....contrary to Liberal “I Agree with Obama on Free Trade” Globalist....is still weak....most people cannot afford electronics and other goods...hence less of a market
Orlando’s International Drive is filled with Brazilian owned electronics shops for the sole purpose of Brasileros buying them and bringing the electronics home
Guess he's never heard of a home garden.
