Eye on 2016 (Hillary Clinton, Rand Paul Leads as Rubio Falls)
FrontPage Mag ^ | 07/18/2013 | Ryan Mauro

The early stages of the 2016 presidential campaign are already underway. Hillary Clinton has held a steady, arguably insurmountable lead for the Democratic nomination, while the Republican nomination is much more fluid. Senator Rand Paul is the frontrunner, thanks to a drop in support for Senator Marco Rubio in Iowa over immigration reform.

At this point, Clinton can essentially walk in and take the Democratic nomination. In Iowa, wins an incredible 71% of the vote. Of course, pundits will argue that Clinton seemed inevitable in 2008, but that was only because it was assumed that then-Senator Obama would not run. Today, there is no one with the super-stardom of Obama on the Democratic Party stage at all.

If Clinton decides not to run, the race (and the general election) becomes more interesting.

Biden is the clear favorite, taking 51% of the vote in Iowa, compared to 13% for Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren, 9% for New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and 6% for Newark Mayor Cory Booker. The latter three have not received attention that Biden has, so their numbers are more likely to reflect a floor, while his tend to reflect a ceiling.

The most important polls to look at are in Iowa and New Hampshire, as their results dramatically shift national polls. By this measure, Paul is the frontrunner as he leads in both states. His position poll-wise is the one most comparable to Romney’s during his successful 2012 bid for nomination.

In February, PPP had Rubio tied with Huckabee for the lead in Iowa (each at 16%). Paul was right on their heels (15%), closely followed by Jeb Bush (14%), Chris Christie (12%) and Paul Ryan (10%). The bottom tier was New Mexico Governor Susana Martinez (4%), Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal (3%) and Texas Governor Rick Perry (3%).

Someone enlighten me. Tell me about Rand Paul: Good or bad, Rino or conservative? I haven’t been seeing much about him, or rather paying attention to him.

WOW! That's it? They may as well just pass the baton to any Democrat that wants it.

We're in big frigg'n trouble.

Thus my prediction that future elections are going to be contests between flat-out Leftist Socialists and Libertarians.

Paul Ryan wants to follow in Rubio’s footsteps.

Rubio fell because he believed the lies of Schumer. In one fell swoop, Schumer got what he wanted with immigration and also defanged a potential 2016 Presidential candidate. I might go so far as to say that Schumer has single handedly destroyed Rubio’s career. Now, Paul Ryan is falling for the same lies.

True, but if Hilary wants it...........its hers. No Republican could beat her. To win, the Republicans would have to find a Gay Black Female to run against Hilary.

"Thus my prediction that future elections are going to be contests between flat-out Leftist Socialists and Libertarians.

Pretty much between the two camps of "We Are Your Master" and "Leave Us Completely Alone".

It makes sense that the two opposites would apply because the GOP-e is clearly aided and seated in the first group, at this point.

A lot of the recent revelations by Ed Snowden, the IRS, police departments cataloging everywhere your car has been, etc. are driving a Libertarian ascendancy.

That and Generation Text wants everyone out of their face about who/what they sleep with or smoking weed.

You will be told here that his libertarian streak is too wide for many FReepers but bear in mind, the perfect is the enemy of the good. One thing Rand Paul can do that no other canddiate can, is to draw on the support base (and data base) established by his father. If you look at the long odds for a 3rd party candidate, and add in the fact that the disaffected Republicans are doing nothing to organize a Conservative Party alternative to the E-GOP, Rand Paul looks pretty good. Read his budget plan by following the link at the bottom of this page:

http://www.paul.senate.gov/?p=issue&id=8

Don’t like Rand Paul? Tell me who else has a plan anywhere near this, and tell me what their strategy would be to get the nomination and win.

Is America ready for a native-American as president?

If this article reflects reality, we've really sunk to new lows vis-a-vis the level of Virtue in the body politic.

No, RUBIO single-handedly destroyed Rubio’s career. If an idiot jumps into the lion’s cage and gets mauled, you don’t blame the lion.

Do any of us fail to see who/what Schumer is? Would any of us have ANYTHING to do with Schumer or any of his legislation? So why did Rubio?

I thought of Rubio as a bright, articulate, rising star in conservative politics. But by his OWN actions and his OWN choices he has shown himself to be stupidly self-absorbed - and he is plummeting as people discover this truth.

Stupid, because he so grossly misread the voters, and self-absorbed because he was willing to betray those who brought him onto the national stage, in the hopes that such betrayal would vault him into the presidency.

Several folks tried to talk reason to him...but he stubbornly refused their suggestions and gladly climbed under the covers with Schumer.

Rubio destroyed his own career - and I’m glad he did. I would have voted for him, only to find out later that, although polished to a fare-thee-well, he is as venal and stupid as they come.

Goodbye Marco, we hardly knew ye.

It doesn’t matter who the republicans run... if they keep attacking and blaming Conservatives for every problem the republicans have and every loss they have engineered... we will run our own damned candidate and work to destroy the gop. They are NOTHING without their base and WE are their base. FU gop/e! You are on notice... ALL of you liberal pos “politicians”!
