Fox News analyst: NBC News ‘on the hook’ in Zimmerman lawsuit
Washington Post ^ | July 17, 2013 | Erik Wemple

Posted on 07/18/2013 7:04:25 AM PDT by kevcol

Lis Wiehl, a Fox News analyst, said, “That’s absolutely not enough. NBC is on the hook here for a big defamation, intentional infliction with emotional stress lawsuit here. They doctored that tape. It went out there. It started the whole narrative of Zimmerman being this hardened racist, this profiling racist that started everything.”
.
.
Accordingly, NBC will have to pay out a “countless amount of money and probably millions of dollars,” argued Wiehl. All agreed that it would cost big bucks for NBC to make this case go away. That sounds about right.

“There’s no such thing as a “civil rights lawsuit” with DOJ as plaintiff.”

Do you really think this will stop the Dept. of Just Us?

Another good lawyer. I think the race-baiters screwed up royally. This time they went after someone who not only was innocent, but has a father who was a judge and knows which lawyers to get.

When the smoke clears from all of the lawsuits he can file, I believe that both the State of Florida and the Federal Government will each owe Zimmerman an island of his choice.

Actually that's not quite true. Martin had scraped knuckles, consistent with having bashed someone's face in bare-handed.

IIRC, the defense asked a witness if the knuckle abrasions could be consistent with M hitting the concrete with them (as if he took a swing at Z but Z moved at the last moment and M hit the concrete instead, I suppose)...

(Rachel Madcow can be kept to clean the toilets.)

Do you honestly think she can ever do any job which doesn't involve the use of her mouth?

I don't see the conflict.

NBC is banking on GZ being defined as a “public figure” but they were the ones who made him a public figure so i don’t think it will stick.

NBC will fight to not pay and hope for a jury of their viewers.

Seemingly, this network is more than just favorable towards this administration.

As most of the hype and reactions of this case has the appearance of being choreographed (Washington?), if there were a real discovery from a Zimmerman civil suit, the results could be devastating.

Bet a civil suit would be settled shortly after it’s filed.

“Profiling” is normal. Zimmerman DID profile him. He profiled him because of the way he was acting. Cops “profile” drunk drivers before they pull them over. Not only is profiling not bad, but even racial profiling has a place.

Exactly. It's funny how the people who most complain about racial profiling are the people who are quickest to profile George Zimmerman, the jurors, and people who look like them as likely to have racist motivations.

It's the same double standard we see with all race matters in this country. When black people profile it is allegedly to address some great injustice, but when white people profile it is racist.

At least profiling a young, black male who is wearing a hoodie is based in statistics that show that demographic to be involved in a grossly disproportionate amount of crime. Profiling all white people as closeted racists has no rational backing. Yet the media actively encourages the latter while scolding anyone who engages in the former. America, what a country!

Out of business, my thoughts too.
Actually there should also be a class action law suit for others who have been harmed by the riots, assaults and related deaths.

I profiled a large number of women before marrying the one I did.

And it was a lot of fun, too.

Are you a subscriber to the “hands on” profiling strategy?

No, it is no coincidence. It was by design. Did the Governor know?

I do not have an answer.

George Zimmerman’s lawyer for the civil suit:

Jim Beasley, Jr. M.D., J.D., LL.M., FCLM

Jim’s results exceed $200 million in awards for his clients, in a variety of complex matters. Thus far in his career, Jim has been voted as one of the Best Lawyers in America, a top 100 Pennsylvania Super Lawyer since 2006, and one of the top 75 plaintiffs’ attorneys in the United States.

He’ll get $200 million from NBC alone, thus doubling the awards his clients have taken in.

Yes, when I first learned that the GZ tape had been ‘doctored’ the first thing that came to mind was the ‘explosion’ of the saddle-tank.

After that fiasco I simply do not understand why anyone would trust NBC.

“If this becomes a trial in NYC, there is no way in hell GZ gets a penny.
Are you from New York? Look at it this way: If it comes to trial with the litigation firm that made GZ the offer, it’s not exactly their first rodeo. They know how to pick a jury. Ever been to Staten Island? Most of Queens? A lot of Brooklyn? Parts of the Bronx? There are a lot of conservatives and a lot of ticked-off white folks and Hispanics, and NBC is a big corporation.

Also, for their own reasons of class envy and redistribution, corporate-hating liberals in a suit like this can make great jurors for the plaintiff. I think George will do fine wherever he goes.”

Comcast is in Phildelphia. GZ’s attorney is in Pennsylvania. I would expect that the trial would be in Philadelphia, no?

I wonder which part of, “It does not matter whether or not GZ was profiling and even if you could prove beyond all doubt that he is 100% racist. You doctored an audio tape! You have defamed him,” is it that NBC does not understand?

Would the suit have to be brought in NYC?

Since NBC broadcasts in every state, the plaintiff can pick any state he wants to file a lawsuit.

Even though a lawsuit was filed in Florida, they can do a voluntary dismissal, and go anywhere they choose; in Florida or any other state.

Your assesment is spot on. I am a midwesterner who spends time on The Island, Jersey, and parts of Brooklyn and Queens. There are many hard core conservatives in those areas. Their problem is the same as many of us they are outnumbered.

As a note the libs in that area are the most rascist people I have ever met.

Exactly. The Israelis are masters at it.

Why has there been no hijacking of El-Al in what, 50 years?

As one El-Al security officer said, even if a man by the name of Umar is British or American, he will still be checkd 5-7 times.

We’d rather grope every grandmother and infant.
