It reads more like the unbelievable exploits of the Terminator. But the remarkable heroics of Lieutenant-General Sir Adrian Paul Ghislain Carton de Wiart are entirely true.
In what many are describing as the best Wikipedia entry ever, the soldier's page opens with the following paragraph: 'Sir Adrian Paul Ghislain Carton de Wiart VC, KBE, CB, CMG, DSO (5 May 1880 5 June 1963) was a British Army officer of Belgian and Irish descent.
'He served in the Boer War, First World War, and Second World War; was shot in the face, head, stomach, ankle, leg, hip, and ear; survived a plane crash; tunnelled out of a POW camp; and bit off his own fingers when a doctor refused to amputate them.
'He later wrote that "Frankly I had enjoyed the war" when describing his service in the First World War.'

Is this the best Wikipedia entry ever? Officer served in THREE wars, was shot in the face, head, stomach, ankle, leg, hip, and ear, escaped a PoW camp and bit off his fingers when doctors refused to amputate
Doesn’t this bio somewhat follow the life of the character, Clive Wynne-Candy, in the movie “The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp?”
VC in the Boer War, WWI, Gets house leveled in WWII, etc.?
must be the “Bully Beef”..
Quite possibly the baddest MoFo to ever walk the Earth!
Wow... I guess you'd have to, to put up with all that
Yep, that's how I would like to be remembered.
Yeah, but working in the office here, once I got this most savage paper-cut. There was drops of blood everywhere. Questions filled my mind: Would I live? Would I see my kids again? Would the monthly sales report be submitted on time?
Luck was on my side that day, and the receiptionist gave me a band-aid. It took days to fully recover, but I’m forever changed by that fateful day.
Yep, that clipped British accent is excellent for invective. :-)
Was it a hello kitty band-aid?
So I was reading a series of books by Peter Hopkirk about the Russian-British rivalry in Central Asia in the late 1800s through WWI; there were all sorts of British army adventurer types sort of like this guy, and he actually makes a point of noting that they all had a tendency to get wounded a ridiculous number of times and survive without being disabled.
There was one who was sent to Central Asia after WWI to spy on the Bolsheviks; he pretended to be Armenian, and ended up being hired by the Bolsheviks as an agent to “look for a British spy” which was HIMSELF. He survived the whole experience.
I'm pretty confident he'd kick the crap out of Chuck Norris.
Bttt
“I’m pretty confident he’d kick the crap out of Chuck Norris.” Indeed, Chuck Norris probably wears pajamas dedicated to this guy.
Who is this guy - Jack Reacher?
It was that or Dora. And I’m not entirely convinced about her immigration status.
And one of the most durable!
bkmk
In other words, he was a MAN.
