An all-or-nothing approach will likely yield what it usually yields nothing. It just takes three simple steps.
Step 1: Secure the border. Do this first. Its time to get it done. We cannot trust bureaucrats or agencies to determine when the border is secured, so we should instead adopt a goal that cant be manipulated such as complete implementation of fencing, technology, and other security methods and only then should we decide whether that approach has worked or not. We should consider the border secure only when the properly elected representatives of the people agree it is secured. Border-state governors and the U.S. Congress must be the ones who verify that our borders are finally secured.
Step 2: Once the border is secure, and not before, we should provide an opportunity for those who came here illegally seeking to work for a better life to gain legal status rather quickly, if and only if they are willing to do all that is required.
We should deport immediately those who engage in criminal activity. We should bar those seeking public assistance from receiving welfare or unemployment benefits for a substantial period of time.
Step 3: Increase legal immigration, by a lot. Letting folks into our country who want to work, get an education, and improve their lives is good for them and good for us. We should increase legal immigration not only for unskilled laborers, but also for skilled workers from all over the world. We need to stop educating the worlds best and brightest engineers and scientists and then upon graduation kick them out of the country so they can compete with us and create growth and wealth in other countries.

Scratch NUMBER 3.
Rather quickly? Try never.Never.
Switch number 2 and 3. And if you’re here illegally...you never get citizenship. To the back of the line or OUT.
People legitimately trying for citizenship, following the rules, learning the language, spent years in the system doing it the right way, should take priority over any and all illegals. Like any government bureaucracy, INS stinks.
I get misty-eyed when I see those who have persevered through all of the waiting and following the rules finally get sworn in. I don’t see much if anything being done to help those trying to become citizens the proper way.
‘Border Security’ (or ‘Boarder Security’ for those in Rio Linda), is only a small part of the problem. At a minimum, we need visa tracking and we need an ICE willing to deport those who fall into their lap.
I want to see the ‘best and brightest’ go home and make their countries great also. I want to see them prosper and contribute to global wealth as well instead of the US doing most of the heavy lifting. I want to see opportunity blossom worldwide rather than be focused on one continent.
1 MILLION A YEAR is not enough for this guy??? Idiot.
No Amnesty. Amnesty means we don’t send your illegal self back to mexico. It doesn’t mean we give you “provisional work permits”. Leave the way you came. Shut these borders down!!— prosecute employers that violate the law.The illegal aliens will vamanos.Eisenhower ran 1.2 million out of here in 1952— look it up on wikipedia .
I like Bobby Jindal; his ideas seem reasonable.
He is basically saying, I think, what Reagan TRUSTED the Democrats to do...but this is “trust but verify”...and nothing until the verification is done.
Bye Bobby... most of my friends in Louisiana are already tired of your schtick.

Bobby is wrong and rewarding illegal aliens with legal status and a pathway to citizenship and at the same time granting them amnesty from using stolen social security numbers and scamming as these invaders do... is just wrong on every level. These are crimes for which you or I would go to jail. No, no amnesty... secure the border and stop these aliens from working... fine and jail leaders of companies that hire them... no welfare... no health care... hey I am not asking for the same treatment that Mexico would give to you or me if we were there illegally... I am not asking that we bar Mexicans from owning property in America as the Mexican Constitution demands of foreigners... I am just asking that we stop glorifying parasites and enforce our laws. These people will go home when there is nothing left for them here.

Then Coast Guard cutters would be required to patrol the coasts off of California and Texas.
Rather than allowing legal immigration there should be a moratorium on ALL immigration, including educational visas, etc.
The unemployment rate is hanging around 7.5%. We do not need more people. We need less people.
That would be ‘fewer’ people, mr/ms grammer:)
“That would be fewer people, mr/ms grammer:)”
Touché! ;-)
“Coming here for a better life.” Why do we owe them that? Why can’t they make a better life in their own countries?
America isn’t magical. America does not have pixie dust growing in the soil. America is the way it is because of generations of dead Americans who sacrificed and made this country what it is for their posterity.
If you replace the posterity of those Americans who created America, you no longer have America. Instead you have a dysfunctional patchwork of ethnics primed for an explosive Balkanization with a cheap flag made in China slapped on the top.
Has any one of these politician jackasses seen the unemployment rate?
