Six Reasons Why Men Are Opting Out Of Marriage
Real Clear Politics ^ | July 9, 2013 | Dr. Helen Smith

Posted on 07/09/2013 10:25:31 AM PDT by NotYourAverageDhimmi

Dr. Helen Smith: American society has become anti-male. Men are sensing the backlash and are consciously and unconsciously going "on strike." They are dropping out of college, leaving the workforce and avoiding marriage and fatherhood at alarming rates. The trend is so pronounced that a number of books have been written about this "man-child" phenomenon, concluding that men have taken a vacation from responsibility simply because they can. But why should men participate in a system that seems to be increasingly stacked against them?

As Men on Strike demonstrates, men aren't dropping out because they are stuck in arrested development. They are instead acting rationally in response to the lack of incentives society offers them to be responsible fathers, husbands and providers. In addition, men are going on strike, either consciously or unconsciously, because they do not want to be injured by the myriad of laws, attitudes and hostility against them for the crime of happening to be male in the twenty-first century. Men are starting to fight back against the backlash. Men on Strike explains their battle cry.

Back in the day, when something bothered a person about their behavior, or didn’t feel good about themselves they either learned to accept it or change it.

Now they can take a pill, and feel good about being an a$$hole.

My wife....
She couldn’t stand even a slightly dirty house, and the guy’s place is a dump.
She hated smoking and the guy smokes like a chimney.
She was devoted to our 12 year old daughter, and let the guy kick her out of the house.
She was a responsible worker, but got fired from her job for unexplained absences.
She was always careful about her looks, last time I saw her she looked like crap.

Everything that’s going on is completely different to the woman I’ve known all these years.

Well like another poster here, when my wife of 19 years on the night of her 40th birthday says “She loves me but is not in love” and wanted a quickie divorce... it gets you jaded. She would not do counseling and just could not quantify why she felt she needed to be single again. I found out months later of course it was another guy, a guy who made her “Happy”. That old Oprah-esque Happiness meme again. Well took me a couple of years to get on my feet emotionally and financially. I have been dating a wonderful gal, self sufficient, tall, sexy, fit, worldly and conservative. We have been talking marriage both of us for the right reasons. Her husband of 9 years pulled the same crap on her 5 years ago. He wanted to be happy and like my ex, it was another person, her best friend. Of course unlike my ex, hers wants her back, she had to get a restraining order. Marriage is not dead, quality people are becoming rarer and rarer.

23 years eh? In California anything over 7 years obligates you to paying alimony for the rest of your life (unless she re-marries, so she’ll usually just shack up with the bum instead).

Points to ponder RE withdraw from society et all...

When a person has a disability that keeps them from what society at large ‘deems’ normal activities, no one thinks it is somehow ‘wrong’ for them to live more secluded/withdrawn lives. Not all disabled people of course, but say the bedridden or someone with severe physical limitations. In fact, they seem to do just fine in their ‘non traditional’ world and don’t all necessarily long to be ‘normal’. To many, what they do IS normal.

In a lot off ways high school never ends. The onetime jocks still sit on a couch and watch the sports they no longer play reliving old memories and that is considered worthy of throwing parties around many weekends a year.

And that is ‘normal’

The gearheads are out in the garage till 3 in the morning wrenching on an old rustbucket.

And that is ‘normal’.

So what is so different about a bunch of guys playing games together online? Guys sit around poker tables every single night and no one bats an eye. Dudes go watch movies like Terminator and Game of Thrones has a large TV following. SCI FI books are still big sellers are Clancy novels.

Same difference folks.

And to top it all off, It is COMPLETELY normal to look at the world we live in and say ‘screw it’ because so few people actually give a damn any more that ‘hope’ is no longer a large commodity.

Toss in the above mentioned women who see men as wallets and defendants in a sex trial.

Toss in most acts of fatherhood now being legal grounds for child abuse and years of incarceration.

Toss in employers that look for reasons to replace you with politically correct victim/affirmative action/low wage workers.

It is not surprising that so many withdraw rather than martyr themselves in Don Quixote fashion. Rather that more don’t join them.

No, according to what I’ve heard from others that know him, when her money runs out, he’ll kick her out.

And without income, she ain’t got the money to last the year of separation required in Virginia.

Men are leaving colleges, because they aren’t wanted there.

Why beat your head against a wall for 4 or 5 years earning a technical degree when you know an H-1B will be hired in your stead?

Reminds me of the case of my late uncle.

He was paying alimony and child support to his ex.
She apparently got remarried, but did not inform my uncle, nor his lawyer, nor the court.

His lawyer discovered this by happenstance almost two years after the fact while researching something else.

They dragged his ex into court. The judge gave her a stern lecture from the bench, but did not make her pay back any of the money. He did terminate her alimony from that date.

She turned around and filed for an increase in child support equal to the amount she had just lost in alimony. A female Family Court judge awarded it to her.

Especially when the cows are surly and unpleasant feminists, liberals, and just plain big-mouths.

Or as Al Bundy once said when accused of cheating, “Why go out for milk when you have a cow at home”? Best line of the entire series.

I disagree.

This line got me out of a death threat:

"What have I got to live for? I'm a married man."

Oh, and I forgot to mention......

This happened at the beginning of last month. Since, she has had me committed (called 911 saying I was suicidal), pulled half our savings out while I was in psych, broke into the house after I changed the locks (also while in psych), and you should read the nasty texts I receive from her (or is it him?).

I was going out of my mind.....until I talked to a counselor last Saturday who explained a lot to me.
