There was a case almost exactly like this in Durham NC... one or the other of the perps were connected with Duke University... the victim was not a Russian adoptee but rather someone from a “troubled” environment from the US.

The adopted child was black. The adoptive (white) father, who called himself "pervdad" online as he trolled for other pedophiles to rape his adopted child, said he tried to adopt a black child on purpose because they were easier to acquire. The father was a highly-paid "diversity" program administrator at Duke University and also a youth leader in his Episcopal church. Either because the rapist was gay or because the child was black, the media maintained a near-total news blackout on this story, after having tried and convicted the innocent young white men of the Duke Lacrosse team the year before, as accused by a black career-criminal prostitute.
