I can compare immigration reform with Obamacare.
Obamacare is more intrusive govt. in that thou shalt buy health insurance and thou shalt comply with numerous govt. mandates.
A more liberal immigration system is about a less intrusive govt. where people immigrate easily with less govt. intrusion.
However, the bottom line is the people of the USA have a better country than most others and the people of the USA want to keep the others out. I’ve got mine and the rest of the world needs to solve its own problems.
The people who wish to come to the USA are saying “Mr. American, tear down these walls.”
While the people of the USA are saying, “We want a new Iron Curtain to keep the heathens out.”
Frankly, it is ok to be selfish. Frankly I am a top 5% and I am not giving much to charity because I like being a top 5% and am looking to retire soon.
But lets be honest about this debate.
Not hardly. America, with 4% of the world's land and 4% of the world's population already accepts more legal immigrants than the rest of the world combined.
During the heyday of Ellis Island 1890-1920 or so, we rejected only about 5% of would-be entrants mainly for stuff like communicable diseases, criminal background or probability of becoming a ward of the state.
Do you think the amnesty lobby would approve if we issued green cards only to those who met the loose Ellis Island era criteria? Not on your life! That is why they insist on a "comprehensive" bill which passes muster with La Raza but not with common sense. It is a "you can't deport anyone" bill.
Americans provide aid to numerous countries regardless of race creed or color, don't we?
