US steps up efforts to break Guantánamo hunger strike
Guardian, UK ^ | June 22, 2013 | Mark Townsend

Shaker Aamer, last British resident held in camp, tells of harsh regime to break strikers' resistance

Speaking last week from the camp in Cuba, exactly four months after he joined the hunger strike, Aamer said: "The administration is getting ever more angry and doing everything they can to break our hunger strike. Honestly, I wish I was dead."

Although the military initially denied that there was a hunger strike inside Guantanámo, it now concedes that, of the 166 detainees, 104 are on hunger strike and 44 are being force-fed.

Aamer describes his daily diet at Guantánamo as a cup of tea or two each day with a low-calorie sweetener and occasionally an Ocean Spray powder mix that has 10 calories – enough to give an energy boost.

Remembering that the prisoners at Guantanamo are the worst of the worst captured terrorists, I have two questions:

1. Why is a Guantanamo terrorist/detainee allowed to talk with external people?

2. Why are we trying to save them, they would only do us a favor by starving themselves to death.

Why don't we just provide them with their usual meal and if they don't eat them, that's their problem.

That was my question as well.

I have as much sympathy for them as they have for us.

Better idea. ENCOURAGE them to starve.

Let’s see. You put the plate of food down for them. They don’t eat it in the time allowed. TFB! You go to bed hungry. And when you want a snack later.......you get what you failed to eat earlier. (Maybe it’s a weight loss program.)

Aamer said: ". . . Honestly, I wish I was dead."

Why do we not accommodate them?

If these guys have been on a hunger strike for four months and are still alive, somebody is cheating!

A jar of cookies under the mattress?

Maybe visiting journalists & lawyers are slipping them a BLT at lunchtime or a sausage & egg McMuffin for breakfast?

“exactly four months after he joined the hunger strike”

So, he hasn’t eaten in four months? I call BS.

“excruciating” to be patted down in the same manner as granny or a toddler by the TSA at any airport?

I think this, I think a little reverse psychology would be in order:

Do a little research and then make food just like they used to serve in the old country. Have the smells of it wafting around the camp. Find one or two guys who can pose as prisoners start eating and enjoying the food and gradually telling the prisoners that the Americans and their way of life is not so bad and that their own leaders are in it for the money. They will be noshing soon.

I’d like to fire up the smoker/BBQ just on the other side of the fence where these terrorists are being held...pork ribs of course.

Let them starve themselves to death - Allah can sort them out when they go to collect their 72 virgins.

We should show some mercy and just shoot them. I don’t see the point in wasting money, the time of our soldiers, and all the continual bad PR from Gitmo.

shoot them and feed them to the sharks.

Guess I don’t have to comment as it appears everything I would have said has been covered. If they want to die, let them die.

All of your solutions make too much sense. I have another option that would take care of this problem, the expenses of running the prison and satisfy Obama’s desire to close it. The waters off the coast of Guantanamo are Shark Infested. Why not put all the prisoners in little dingy’s about 4-5 miles off the coast with a naval blockade of ship movement in the area and let nature take its’ course. Oh well, I guess that is why I am not making those decisions.

Why force feed them? These are evil people who were illegal enemy combatants. Under the rules of the Geneva Conventions they would be considered “spies and saboteurs” as they were posing as civilians while trying to kill our guys. We have no obligation to keep them alive.

Let's just roast some pigs for the troops upwind of their cells.
