News of reporter and writer Michael Hastings´ death at the age of only 33 has shaken the journalism community across the nation, as well as fans of the writer´s hard-hitting reporting.(Snip)conspiracy theorists are speculating that there is more than meets the eye over Hasting´s demise. Twitter, Facebook, and sharing site Reddit were abuzz Wednesday, with some users commenting that it was suspicious that Hastings, who famously brought down U.S. Army Gen. Stanley McChrystal in a Rolling Stone cover story, died while in the middle of covering several hot-button topics like monitoring by the National Security Agency and the CIA.

Interestingly at his untimely death he was working on a story about the imprisoned journalist Barrett Brown (facing 105 years for sharing a link, etc.) and planning to visit him in jail. They were friends and allies. About this story he said “Get ready for your mind to be blown.” His last article mentions BB, as do his tweets from early June. The Mercedes he was in had a computer controlled transmission and throttle pedal. The gear lever in that car has no mechanical connection to the transmission, just as the gas pedal doesn’t have a mechanical connection to the throttle. Downshifting on that car only tells the computer you would like a downshift. It doesn’t actually move things in the transmission.

I read fairly extensively the threads that ensued upon Breitbart's sudden passing, and if such a condition was reliably established as fact, I must've missed it. My understanding is that his own brother was unaware of such a condition.

I had to do that once. Shifted into neutral to tap accelerator, only it stuck at full throttle. Happened in the Army on a pitch black night, blackout drive, going less than 10mph while crossing a dry river bed which had many cobble rocks in it. Our platoon’s SFC was asleep in the passenger seat. Engine screeming, vehicle bumping all around and he woke up, screaming at the top of his lungs. Complete terror. I turned off the engine, stopped and popped the hood to free the cable. Last time I ever drove him -for some reason.
