NSA Leaker Comes Forward: ‘I Know I Have Done Nothing Wrong’
The Blaze ^ | 6-9-2013 | Madeleine Morgenstern

Posted on 06/09/2013 12:16:55 PM PDT by sheikdetailfeather

A 29-year-old former CIA worker and current defense contractor employee has come forward as the source of the National Security Agency leaks to The Guardian newspaper:

The individual responsible for one of the most significant leaks in US political history is Edward Snowden, a 29-year-old former technical assistant for the CIA and current employee of the defence contractor Booz Allen Hamilton. Snowden has been working at the National Security Agency for the last four years as an employee of various outside contractors, including Booz Allen and Dell.

The Guardian, after several days of interviews, is revealing his identity at his request. From the moment he decided to disclose numerous top-secret documents to the public, he was determined not to opt for the protection of anonymity. “I have no intention of hiding who I am because I know I have done nothing wrong,” he said.

Snowden will go down in history as one of America’s most consequential whistleblowers, alongside Daniel Ellsberg and Bradley Manning. He is responsible for handing over material from one of the world’s most secretive organisations – the NSA.

In a note accompanying the first set of documents he provided, he wrote: “I understand that I will be made to suffer for my actions,” but “I will be satisfied if the federation of secret law, unequal pardon and irresistible executive powers that rule the world that I love are revealed even for an instant.”

See, I have mixed feelings about this, brothers. If I had access to secrets, I would NEVER reveal them, because I have sworn an oath -- and my personal integrity is very VERY important to me.

I would absolutely quit in protest, if I was offended by the actions of the government, but my oath is my oath. The secrets would be safe.

I do understand if other people feel differently.

If he is threatening undercover operatives, then he is suspect in my book. It takes me to Benghazi and the disappeared witnesses.

So, yeah, it gives me an insight that you probably are incapable of dealing with.

By THAT logic, I must have EXTREME insight. Ya see FRiend, I was in Lower Manhattan that bright Tuesday morning. I emerged from the subway right after the first hit. I had worked as a field tech in and around those buildings for almost 20 years. I KNEW people who where murdered that day. I KNEW firemen that died in the line of duty that day. I had to smell THAT SMELL for weeks afterward.

To see some keyboard warrior using that attack as means of qualifying themself as being somehow more insightful turns my stomach.

No need to cover up the Chicom involvement in Hong Kong ~ they’re there anyway. Nothing you can do about it.

When the administration is doing something like this?

So you’ll follow any orders?

It’s starting to sound like you did not read the Guardian article in any detail, and did not listen to the video with anything approaching an open mind. I’m neither for nor against this guy’s actions at this moment until I learn more. Some of the things he said are definitely cause for concern, and he has come forward an has taken personal responsibility for his decision to put the info out there. That deserves at least a fair hearing. But you’re over there sharpening the guillotine already.

This young man would be wise to not allow such comparisons to be made.

&&&
Original piece says he thought Obama’s election in ‘08 would improve things. What does that tell you?

The smoke from the dead bodies at the Pentagon blew South into my neighborhood, and I still have that odor in my nostrils.

You were on a subway!

The actions are actions I would not take, personally. My integrity is important to me.

But that's me. This man felt differently.

And the net result of the actions shed some much-needed light on some very heinous actions by our current administration.

I can condemn the action, I suppose, but I cannot condemn the *result* of the action.

What were told that to the degree any information from the USA was involved they had to get court warrants and they did so. The foreign part they've never needed warrants for ~

I do not consider it any sort of problem to tap all the phones in the world ~ but by gum if they want to do it to my phone they need a warrant. Snowdon's revelations help only the foreigners who would kill me in my bed.

What data does he have in a lockbox somewhere in the world. Would that be enough to keep him alive? Pelecan Brief?

Stop it. You are being egregiously offensive.

Do not claim you were more victimized than someone else by 9/11.

That is a disgusting tack to take.

Laz, so let’s say you came across classified docs that revealed in the next month a high profile “faked” terrorist attack would be set off in NYC (or pick a city) where 100s would die and untold severe injuries would also result.

Thereafter, the Gov would enact more severe restrictions on freedom via laws, you wouldn’t leak?

hmm ~ several of my neighbors were there and were burned alive. my cousin was on the 5th floor above the area where the plane crashed through the walls, and a neighbor actually came to that room with a flash light that cut through the smoke and led my cousin and the other trainees out.

If that sickens you tell it to your buddies in AlQaida ~ until they are all dead and in their pig fat graves I"m going to think there's a war still on.

They did it.

Without a warrant.

Still cool with the actions of our government?
