I’m surprised these “scientists” haven’t simply made up a bunch of studies to “explain”.
That’s what “scientists” do these days, especially when their taxpayer-funded, government-grant gravy train is at stake.

The hockey stick was not a prediction model, as such.
It purported to show the history of actual historical global temperature.

Because of the lack of useful records and data sources, that was also a model, of sorts, being made up of many different sorts of data, ice cores, tree rings, 19th century thermometer readings, etc., all questionably selected and massaged together using dubious algorithms.

The prediction models are something else again. They are much more ambitious, if thats possible, as they try to predict temperature from independent variables.

There are a lot of people that hold fast to theories about the way things must be, despite all evidence to the contrary. We call these people delusional.

There was no climate change other than natural variation that they tried to blame on human activity.
How hard is it to explain that?
When there's a difference between reality and the model, it's not reality that's wrong.

Sort of the same thing happened to Global Cooling from the 70s. It just fizzled out.

Their premise was wrong, CO2 shows up AFTER it warms and not before as proven by the Vostok ice core samples. Those samples also show that it is a natural cycle that happens every 120K years or so. We humans have nothing to do with it. CO2 is a regulatory gas that the planet uses in this cycle. We are most probably going into an ice age as is the natural cycle, but that will be a slow process taking many years, so not to worry.

"most climate models failed to predict that the temperature rise would slow, starting around 2000"

Which ones did? I would take another look at those...

why do we even care what these idiot liars think anymore? they’re morons with bastardized data and incomplete inaccurate models and political agendas.

I have the PERFECT scientific explanation.

Global warming has slowed down because global cooling just sped up.

The hockey stick was not a prediction model, as such.

I don't know where you got your training, but when I took modeling in engineering classes I didn't learn about a "prediction" category as a type of model.

On the other hand, when Mann publishes the model in one year and the model purports to show ranges of temperature values which should be expected in subsequent years, then Mann has made a prediction based on that model.

I think what you may be thinking about is that Mann's model was based on an extrapolation of current trends based on the assumption that the upturn observed in the 1990's was due primarily to CO2.

While other models are stochastic in nature and purport to compute climate changes breaking the atmosphere into "cells" and predicting temperatures based on various environmental variables. They have been successful with this technique for short term weather analysis, but long term trends have been problematic.

Of course, I don't want to throw rocks at these folks because my company sells HPC (High Performance Computers) and we want them to run as many models as their hearts desire! :)

It is true that his curve extended into the past based on dubious data sets, but Mann was also attempting to extrapolate into the future. An attempt which has failed miserably.

But Al Gore got a Nobel Award. Should not that count for something? Well if you are a snake oil salesman who cares what is really the truth.

Liberals really ascribe to this climate change folly and are ready to sacrifice what few liberties we have left to provide the UN and EPA power to “save us all”. They portent to know better, yet fail to read the research that proves it's a 60 year cycle. They were writing articles on the new coming ice age in the 70s. It's all political.

No mention of the sun. It’s like sociaologists trying to figure out why people are dying at an inordinate rae in a neighborhood without any consideration of the bullet holes in each of the deceased.

Any “scientist” who says “the science is settled” is not a scientist. Only a liberal intellectual could say something like that and what he means is that the science is politically settled.

What AGW or Climate Change was and is is the most audacious power grab in history. They mean to grab off world control all at once. So it is pretty much sliding into necrosis except that the cancer that itis has metastasized in government and long after the phony scientists have quit talking about it because of the embarrassment it brings them the governments will continue to push it and pass more laws to enthrone it and make more treaties and create more commissions that will bit by bit begin to make laws acquire enforcement powers involving national domestic defense forces and even armies even as the Earth slips into a new Oba Minimum and crops fail throughout the temperate zone.

The goal of all leftists is to control as many things as possible. By the early 80s, communism, a world-wide cancerous growth, was dying but not yet dead. Many leftists still believed it had a viable future, and still entertained the idea of the one-world government.

Then China turned to a somewhat market economy in 1979, India about ten years later, and the Soviet Union crashed. Most people saw socialism (with a few holdouts like Cuba and N. Korea) as a future die a horrible death. Now how could they, leftists, control people? Since the world was coming out of 30 year-long cooling cycle, they hit on an idea. Establish the idea of man-made, global warming and demand a centralized i.e. totalitarian model to control everybody. Now that the anthropogenic, global-warming scam is being revealed, the next question is: what scam will leftists come up with next to advance their goal of a totalitarian, one-world government?
