I heard YESTERDAY that storms were predicted again for today. There's no excuse for the schools in that area to open for business this morning.

Yes there is. Following your policy, in much of the country students would miss 1-2 weeks of school every spring.

If we just never let kids leave their houses and kept them in the basement they'd be even safer.

Also depending on the house, kids are safer in school. A kid from a trailer park is DEFINITELY safer than in school.

That's the rub I've wrestled with in my own head (glad I don't have to make these calls): do you keep all the kids in one place in the hopes that the school is missed, or send them all home - knowing that being so spread out that there could be several that never return.

Meanwhile, there's a woman on KCTV being extricated from her home with a board or something through her leg.

School administration and the kids are so used to these drills and they do go to what would be considered the safest internal area. Much safer than being in most homes unless they have underground shelters. The other benefit of having the kids at school is that parents can then deal with their own safety and maybe just small ones yet at home.

The intensity of all of the tornados this year over last year do make me worry about what our upcoming hurricane season will bring. Last year we had nary a one. So many more people in the Texas gulf area now, most have never been through a hurricane and are so ill prepared.

Prayers up for all those wonderful Okies. God watch over you all.
