Rangel worries honest IRS agents are now ‘getting a bad shake’

Rep. Charles Rangel (D-N.Y.) on Sunday said that he feared the Internal Revenue Service scandal over political targeting of Tea Party groups would unfairly stigmatize other workers at the agency.

“The biggest problem is that tens of thousands of IRS workers that work hard with all of this stigma being tax collectors, are getting a bad shake out of this,” said Rangel during a panel discussion on ABC’s “This Week.”

The IRS acknowledgement that agents used higher scrutiny against conservative groups seeking tax exempt status has already claimed the job of acting director Steven Miller and has the White House and Congress both vowing thorough investigations.

Rangel said the problem lay with the law governing tax-exempt status, which he said was prone to abuse.

“Whether they should have used this buzz words for conservatives or liberal, it is wrong and outrageous when people are penalized for their political beliefs,” he added.

“But the law has been abused ever since it's been there.”

Tax Cheat Charlie is right ... you Freepers need to realize that it's only 98 percent that's giving the rest of them the bad name.

Just like “Charlie’s People,” so he well understands the concept!

Poor Charlie. He hasn't "got it" since somewhere around 1950.

Because the enforcers of a flat tax won’t be susceptible to corruption and bias?

In the eyes of this administration all of this is “irrelevant”.

The guys who set up the system to make the workflow more efficient have probably been punished ~ but the management team that saw their buddy Obama profit politically have gotten large bonuses.

That's the way it always is in the gub'mnt. The brass steal and congratulate each other for having done it well.

We have to have some type of tax to keep the defense. It's better than the status quot.

You’re just trading being shot for being stabbed.

The problem isn’t the tax or how it’s done. It’s the enforcement of that.

How to ensure the enforcers, of whatever tax system you end up with, are NOT politically motivated jerks. That’s the problem.

The primary goals of the IRS are to intimidate and destroy people. Get rid of the IRS!

when you let your agents go rogue, charlie, and poo-poo it simply as bad cutomer service, this is justice. they deserve to be thought of this way.

same with cops. their protection code’of silence for trouble cops, they deerve to all be thought of less, their going along with it makes them enablers and promotes them continuing to do bad things and covering them up.

Well, I doubt there are any honest ones, but if there were, they would indeed be getting a bad shake.
