"OLDIES BUT GOODIES FROM THE 50S AND 60S"

Here's another one of those:

Bits and Pieces - The Dave Clark Five (1964)

(When you hear this old 60's song, does it sound vaguely like a marching cadence?)

My favorite Eagles song is Don't You Want to be Mine?, but the only recording of this song on Youtube is of poor quality.

Trying to Get to You sounds better. As far as I know, it's the only song by the Eagles to have been covered by Elvis Presley.

Speaking of treats and petting, Titan is coming weekend after next with my new house Kitty. She just turned four and is named Slinky because of her spiral stripes.

In December 2005, Colin released "My Brilliant Feat" as a charity single in tribute to Northern Irish professional football player George Best, who died on 25 November of that year. Proceeds were forwarded to the Donor Family Network, supporting organ donor families and promoting organ and tissue donation. A winger for Manchester United and the Northern Ireland national teams Georgie Best won the European Cup with United, and was named the European Footballer of the Year and FWA Footballer of the Year. He is described by the national team's governing body, the Irish Football Association, as the "greatest player to ever pull on the green shirt of Northern Ireland."

The song was popular in Ireland, Hay's native Scotland and thoughout Europe, but didn't catch on in the U.S. until it was featured three years later on the television series "Scrubs".

The commute is getting better, thankfully.

Glad to be back at Choir - I've missed being there, and I was warmly welcomed - I was quite moved. I have sung with some of these friends for many years. A few of them sang with me for the Papal Mass at Nationals Stadium in April 2008. That Mass was held the day after my last radiation treatment - I'm now five years post treatment, so I guess I must be a cancer survivor.

We're singing some of the old standards in the next few weeks - despite my long absence, those hymns are so internalized in my core memory that I could never forget them.

Coming up for Pentecost -"Come Holy Ghost", of course! I first sang it in 1953 - a notable anniversary!

"Riamh nár dhruid ó sbairn lann!"

Genuflectimus non ad principem sed ad Principem Pacis!

Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far; The LORD hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name. (Isaiah 49:1 KJV)
