Obama Renews Promise to Shut Down Guantanamo (This time it will be different!)

With almost 100 Guantanamo prisoners now on a hunger strike to protest the alleged mistreatment of Korans, President Barack Obama announced on Tuesday plans to “re-engage” Congress to fulfill his failed campaign promise of shutting down the terrorist detention facility.

"I'm going to go back at this," Obama promised. "I've asked my team to review everything that's currently being done in Guantanamo, everything that we can do administratively, and I'm going to re-engage with Congress to try to make the case that this is not something that's in the best interests of the American people."

Obama also expressed concern over the health of the detainees on hunger strike.

(snip)

Now, however, Obama says his second attempt to shut down Guantanamo will be different.

I’d be surprised if before his second term ends he pulls the US Military out of Guantanamo all together.

Here’s what I heard at a rest stop in Texas last week: “If you put it on your boots and it makes them pretty, it’s Shinola; if you put it on your boots and it makes them stink, it’s obama.

It has by now become quite abundantly clear that 0bama is lying when he is lying. There really is no expectation, even among his supporters, that he is speaking about anything he has any intention of actually doing. And our enemies understand this as well, for better or (much more likely) worse. He’s doing this out of the everything-but-reality-reinforced arrogance he lives in. He has absolutely no alternative to Gitmo, not in conception nor in reality, but he believes he can work using his political capital by railing against it. Yeah, right. Let him burn through it, no skin off my back.

And I have yet to see one single idea out this admin that is as clever as interning prisoners in Gitmo. It’s actually a very ingenious solution to a cruddy problem.

I was wondering if the only reason for Obama press conference today was Jason Collins and the rest was just filler

Shut down Gitmo, and you can expect a drug war in the streets of the US like you’ve never seen before.

Right now the Mexicans control the drugs flowing into this country.

Shut down Gitmo and you wont need the extra security for the area, allowing another drug route up through Cuba into S Florida.

Black gangs would migrate to this source for their dope.

Mexicans aren’t going to like black gangs getting their dope from somewhere else and you’re going to get a drug war.

Why dont we just abort all the terrorists at GITMO?

I mean, whats the big deal about killing them?

We kill hundreds of unborn children in this and other countries every day.

Did we not just spend 100 million dollars to turn this place into a Country Club, with four star restaurants, modern medical/dental clinics, prayer rooms, and soccer fields? Has this government NO concern about the money it throws away?

Jay Leno said Obama still wants to close Guantanamo but he doesn’t know how to do it. What he should do is declare it a small business and tax it out of existence.

As I see it, there is a much easier solution to this problem, I understand most of the perps there are on a hunger strike and they are force feeding them, well that is a problem, why not just place some food in front of them to fulfill your obligations to feed your prisoners, and if they don’t eat, they will starve to death, there you are, problem solved, close down the place

If GITMO would add a basketball court and golf course, it would be a perfect vacation site for Obama. Great food, prayer rooms, etc., would make him feel at home.

Aside... I don’t give a damn about the people at GITMO that are doing their hunger strikes. STOP force feeding them! If they’re willing to starve, LET THEM!

Of course he is concerned for their health. They are kindred spirits.
