Rubio condemns Bachmann

Republican Sens. Marco Rubio and Scott Brown joined John McCain in denouncing the congresswoman's Muslim witch hunt

Florida Republican Sen. Marco Rubio, a rising star in the party and a potential vice-presidential pick for Mitt Romney, said this morning that he disagreed with Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann’s baseless call to investigate Muslim Brotherhood infiltration in the U.S. government.

Appearing on NPR’s Diane Rehm show, Rubio was asked by a caller if he would join Republican Sen. John McCain’s strong condemnation of the anti-Muslim witch hunt on the Senate floor yesterday. While Rubio said he doesn’t personally know Huma Abedin, a top aide to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton whom Bachmann accused of being connected to the Brotherhood, the Florida Republican said, “Wveryone I talk to who has dealt with her, [says she is] a professional and hardworking and patriotic American who loves her country and in the service of her country is serving it.”

“I am not a signatory to that letter,” Rubio said of Bachmann’s letters to the inspectors general of several national security agencies demanding investigations. “I don’t share the feelings that are in that letter. Obviously, every member of Congress has a right to express their opinion and every member of Congress is held accountable for their opinion, if they’re right or if they’re wrong.”

“I can tell you that I don’t share the feelings that are in that letter,” he continued, “And in fact, I’m very very careful and cautious about ever making accusations like that about anyone.”

Rubio’s comments are decidedly more circumspect than McCain’s, but it is still unusual for someone in his position to speak out publicly against someone in his own party. Bachmann has also earned scorn from her former presidential campaign manager, Ed Rollins, who said Bachmann’s witch hunt is “extreme and dishonest.” “Shame on you, Michele!” Rollins wrote.

UPDATE: Sen. Scott Brown, the Republican from Massachusetts facing off against Democrat Elizabeth Warren in November, took to Twitter to strongly condemn Bachmann by name:

Rep. Bachmann’s accusations about Sec. Clinton aide Huma Abedin are out-of-line. This kind of rhetoric has no place in our public discourse

Instead of stating the case against continuation of an absurd immigration policy; you and others on this thread have elected to insult the motives, intelligence & integrity of a popular Senator, In doing so, you have not even bothered to discuss his argument--which I will certainly acknowledge is flawed.

This approach is completely self-defeating. By it, you will turn off people who are not as aware of the case against "liberal" immigration policy, by offending their sense of fairness. You make them far less likely to listen to you, or your thinking, on any issue.

This approach also diverts attention of those who agree with you, from actually making the case against "liberal" immigration, into joining in a PR lynching. (Thus, you are actually "neutering" some of those who agree with you. This is a disastrous tactic.)

Similar folly cost the Republicans the Presidency & Senate in 2012. Here is a link to my own attack on former President Bush on basically the same issue in 2006. Note, that while I attack him on the issue, I address his specific argument, point by point, providing refutation to those who agree with him and ammunition to those who agree with me: Answer To President Bush on Immigration.

You keep highlighting (in two posts) how "right" Marco is on "other issues". You are correct. Rubio has (if I remember correctly) a close-to-100% ACU rating for last year.

However, it doesn't make a bit of difference if his rating is 100% or 150%. It's the ONE issue he's wrongly promoting that is the whole ball game....the issue of amnesty.

If the (quick) path to amnesty bill succeeds, there'll be an influx into this fruited plain of an estimated 30-50 million or more aliens (counting their extended families who will be approved to join them as citizens). And approx 70% or more will vote Demonrat.

As the experts are saying - this will be the end of the Republican party and we'll become a one-party welfare country ruled by socialist/fascist thugs and elites who will do nothing but cater to greedy leeches and ethnics.

So, at this critical juncture, it matters NOT A WHIT that Rubio has a conservative voting record on this issue or that issue....the fact is that NOTHING will matter any more if this ONE KEY ISSUE being debated right now is to morph into amnesty....and it will if the Gang of 8 gets its way.

Then, Obama and his commie cohourts will have achieved their goal of radically "changing America".

It looks like the leftist thugs are finding willing allies, tools and fellow-travelers in the ranks of the RINO DC legislative crowd.

Each person has to ask himself this question...."On the amnesty issue - in WHAT WAY is Marco Rubio proclaiming loudly, passionately, analytically and truthfully in defense of our country's economic future, it's two-party foundation.....and in keeping with the principles of HIS OWN political party?"

By focusing on personalities, rather than the actual argument against "liberal" immigration policies, you are helping to "Marginalize" the opposition. If that is what Grover Norquist has suggested, why do you choose to play into his hands?

Fire on the fallacious arguments, not the proponents. (See my #81, which while it offers a link to my attack on President Bush over the same issue, the attack is not to his personality but to his specific--word for word--argument.)

Regarding Abedin...this must be a coincidence then

Rush: Hillary ,Huma and the Muslim Sisterhood

… Huma Abedin,Mrs. Anthony Weiner,Mrs. Huma Weiner, she is Hillary Clinton's number one aide. And Huma's mother is best friends with the new First Lady of Egypt, the wife of the new Muslim Brotherhood guy,Morsi. That's really all you need to know. But there's much more to know.

That's why Hillary is out celebrating the Brotherhood. That's why Hillary is joining Obama in telling the military to give it up for the Brotherhood guy. Because Huma's mom, there's actually a group, the Muslim Sisterhood, essentially, that is an offshoot of the Brotherhood. And Huma's mom is best friends with the new so-called First Lady of Egypt, who is also a member of the Sisterhood. Folks,it's Peyton Place.

***there'll be an influx into this fruited plain of an estimated 30-50 million or more aliens***

Too Right! BUT, it is becoming a moot point, along with USDA calling for food stamps for all illegals and Fornicalia leading the way to free health care for all who can be in America and kneel before their Socialist Commissar.

In point of fact, the $17 tril debt is already dragging us down and can only lead to the destruction of the dollar. Right now, HOPE is not on the horizon. Cloward & Piven, Bill Ayers, Hugo Chavez [RIP!ss], etc., etc. are ecstatic!

I am not saying not to take the issue back to Senator Rubio. Indeed, in Whither American Conservatism?, I suggest how a constituent might address the Senator on the issue.

I agree with you as to its importance. My argument, here, goes to the tactics. Concentrate on the points of how destructive the policy has been, and will be, not on fighting with allies over personalities. It is entirely your business if you can vote for the Senator. We do not, at this moment in time, need to get lost in secondary aspects, which divide our base unnecessarily. .

What’s to discuss? I consider his argument to be lies, and his true motivations to be hidden over so much fluff.

Amnesty for illegals is going to destroy this country, and I say this as a Hispanic whose family came over from Mexico the right way. The last thing you want is a legion of people who don’t respect American law, who have no skills and no fear of the U.S., gaining citizenship and the right to vote. It’s basically like putting the gun to our collective head and pulling the trigger. Meanwhile, these freaks and fools think that by doing this, they are going to get the illegal alien and hispanic vote, since they don’t actually blame their lack of principles of their loss to Obama, but their inability to out-pander Obama for minority votes.

The whole exercise, therefore, is sick and flawed. It’s a sickness in the brain that these people simply can’t realize that it is their lack of integrity and strength that causes them to lose against the left.

“This approach is completely self-defeating. By it, you will turn off people who are not as aware of the case against “liberal” immigration policy, by offending their sense of fairness. You make them far less likely to listen to you, or your thinking, on any issue.”

We already tried the panzy approach with Mittens. His fake-tan and his flip flops didn’t win anybody over.

What's to discuss?

Look: Everyone does not see what you see. Everyone reading these comments is not necessarily on our side. Even many on our side, are far more apt to reject your argument, if you make it more about personalities than the actual underlying issues.

You may enjoy venting, or at least feel that it helps you deal with bitter subjects. But for the very reasons you mention, we are in a desperate fight to reach as many people as possible. Leave the personal insults out of it, for people generally on our side, and continue to argue for what you believe is right.

Of course not. They’re RINO’s. Liberalism is very much a mental disorder.

” Even many on our side, are far more apt to reject your argument, if you make it more about personalities than the actual underlying issues.’

So, do you think illegal aliens getting citizenship and the right to vote is going to work out just fine?

” Even many on our side, are far more apt to reject your argument, if you make it more about personalities than the actual underlying issues.’

Rubio is not on our side. He’s in with the GOPe and is actively working against us because he thinks we’re a bunch of ignorant hicks and that the only way to beat the libs is to join them.

“Rubio has (if I remember correctly) a close-to-100% ACU rating for last year.”

Leni, I think you realize that the ACU is part of the cabal that has been taken over, especially by the apologists of Islam by Norquist, Cardenas, Suhail Khan.

We cannot trust those ratings. The ACU endorses amnesty.

Bachmann is the Joe McCarthy of this era. One needs to recall how Joe took a beating from the then RINOs such as the glorified WWII leader Eisenhower. Some so taken wise politicians can’t or don’t want to recall how on target Joe was with what avowed communists and enabling syncopates were in the USA government. At the time it was the underhanded communists that Joe was warning about. At this time it is the underhanded money bag Muslims stepping into the front of the line in front of communists but this time there is much oil and it’s money that has bought very many politicians and enablers into the open. It is going to be a very tough effort to battle against the likes of Rubio and Norquist to get back on track for what the Founders intended for this Nation.

What part of HE DOES NOT CARE WHAT YOU THINK, don’t you understand? He uses SPLC talking points against ALL conservatives...yes, that same SPLC who has listed FR as a ‘hate’ site.

Stop distorting. Pay attention.

Yes, I know the ACU keeps two feet ostensibly in conservatism and another two feet covertly in the dark side...but I didn't want to get sidetracked in my post.

However, I'm glad you pointed this out in your comment....because many conservatives rely on the ACU ratings....and it bears mentioning that the organization's rating numbers can be shaded, misleading or biased depending on which elected personages its hierarchy is promoting....or black-listing.

Thanks for your important post.

Not much! The NRA ‘seems’ planted firmly for the 2nd amendment...but I worry for how long when Norquist is on their board of directors as he is on the Chamber of Commerce, etc. etc. etc.
