That explains the nationwide shortage of waitstaff in America.

And surly behavior
If you’re not making a good wage as a waiter, you’re likely not a very good waiter.
Most waiters, and waitresses, make far more than a minimal day’s wage in their four hour shifts.
I hate to sound petty, but don’t the tips go up as the prices on the menus go up? Isn’t that kinda’ a raise?
I understand (and if true I disapprove) that restaurants are forced by the IRS to pool tips to keep waitstaff from evading taxes on them, which if true, defies the very purpose of tipping and introduces collectivism into the tip distribution. Evil.
If their salary goes up to 70% of minimum wage then does that mean I get to tip 30% of what I used to?
Gotta’ have a sense of humor as a waitress . . . When they go to seat me, I always ask for a table near a waitress. They love that.
And, if the soups of the day are chicken soup and pea soup, I always ask for the chicken soup . . . pause . . . and then ask the waitress if she could hold the chicken and make it pea.
Or, I’ll say, “Instead of a tip, howzabout’ my wife helps clear the table?”
Get some good laughs out of that one. No wonder my wife doesn’t like to go to restaurants with me.
It appears that the food service business model is shifting away from wait staff to counter service or self-service. Perhaps government should let the market figure this out. I suspect that the waitress will go the way of the secretary.
If they raise the tip minimum wage then it relieves consumers of the responsibilty to tip for good service. If the servers’ wage no longer depends upon their perfromance then why should we pay them extra for doing what they are being paid to do anyway?
Still tons of grammar errors. Aren’t any of these places looking for proofreaders? I can work for 12 hours minimum if I’m at home.
Back in my days of waiting tables, payday meant absolutely nothing. Even got checks in the red on occasion. Trust me...I didn’t mind at all.
This is not an issue for the government to solve.
3 daughters currently are servers. They make about $10/hr when you combine tips and base pay, and work hard for it. Since it all goes into the bank for school and they have no bills to pay, it’s not a bad job.
There are two groups who fail to tip them nearly 100% of the time: bratty high school kids and Mormon elders.
So did her cost of living.
This is between employer and employee. Anyone in America who is stupid enough to work for two bucks an hour deserves exactly what they get. Demand higher salary, and if it isn’t granted, go find a job that gives it. Stop whining about some minimum wage, and actually treat this like the free economy it is.
I remember watching a waitress dump an order of french fries into the lap of one of her customers, and she couldn’t even manage an apology.
I wonder if she any conception of why she didn’t get a tip?
My niece lasted one pay period serving at an IHOP in a lousy location. Her entire paycheck was 0.00.after funny deductions, and when she complained, she was told she had her tips, which she didn’t because they were really lousy tippers in that neighborhood.
I love IHOP, but I’ll never be at that one.
Good waiters in good restaurants make boucoupe bucks.
The minute that the feds mandate an increase, is the minute that my tips are halved.
If she doesn’t like the pay rate she could go into a different field.
Also, tips can make you get $50/hour.
When I waited tables the paycheck was like a bonus. I’d go home with $100 or so every shift (many years ago). When I got a paycheck every two weeks it was like extra pay.
A good waitress gets $25/50 an hour, at least, unless it’s really slow, and it is not high skilled work, although it is physical and requires some good social skills and presence of mind.
When I do payroll accounting I get $25 and hour and it is far more skilled than waiting tables.
In general waiters suck, waitresses are better.
Wait until Obamacare kicks in. Food ordering: there's an app for that.
