Makes sense that the perp would be on his cellphone as detonation occurs, although no one knew if timer was used or not. Tracing cell traffic during detonation time, well.. The perp can’t hide from that. Idiotic to use a cellphone bomb. Stupid.
If this individual learned how to make IEDs, either by being trained or via online jihadist manuals, then he knew not to use a cell phone operationally for communications. Especially in the act of planting the IED, knowing that he was being filmed.
