Bill O’Reilly Blows Up At Laura Ingraham In Epic Segment Over His ‘Thump The Bible’ Comments
Mediaite ^ | April 2nd, 2013 | Josh Feldman

Posted on 04/02/2013 7:58:07 PM PDT by Corporate Democrat

Bill O’Reilly tonight responded to criticisms from the right over his commentary last week that gay marriage opponents need to do more than just “thump the Bible” if they want to win the argument. After a Talking Points Memo largely focused on mocking liberal media attempts to gin up a feud between himself and Rush Limbaugh, O’Reilly brought on Laura Ingraham, who actually told O’Reilly he was wrong in saying what he said. O’Reilly was stunned with Ingraham, shouting over her and telling her “I’m disappointed in you.”

Ingraham first surprised O’Reilly by agreeing that there actually is a feud of sorts going on between him and people like Limbaugh, given Limbaugh’s harsh condemnation of O’Reilly’s commentary. O’Reilly dismissed the idea he and Limbaugh are enemies, saying “I don’t care what he says, he can say whatever he wants.”

Ingraham agreed with O’Reilly that gay marriage opponents are not always good at making their case, but said O’Reilly unnecessarily insulted them. O’Reilly insisted he made an “honest point” about gay marriage, and shocked Ingraham by saying that opponents cannot cite the Bible in a policy argument. Ingraham told O’Reilly he was being disrespectful, which led O’Reilly to tell Ingraham he’s “disappointed” in her.

O’Reilly scolded her for criticizing her for his “accurate description,” saying he doesn’t really care whether it was unhelpful or if anyone took offense, it was an “accurate and honest attack.”

[[Frankly, I think he’s getting worse. He appears to be losing it these days.]]

I do beleive it’s a ratigns thing- ALL ‘reality’ shows these days are addign all kinds of fake drama apparently because they think we the peopel are idiots and won’t realize it’s fake drama added for hte sake of ratings- and I think We’re seeign an escvalation of Bill’s wrath as a result of some dolt i nthe cotnrol room ordering him to be mroe dramatic for the sake of ratings-

You might be right- he may be losing it, but I tend to think it’s a ratingas thing

[[Personally, I think that O’Reilly’s high ratings are in spite of him, not due to him.]]

His high ratigns are due to the LEFT hearign abotu him blowign up at the right and coming on to watch him perform for them- they are newbies who will most likely quickly tire of his arrogant attitudes just as the right has tired- but hte problem is that he keeps drawing these lefties in so the ratigns for his show keep staying high, but the FACT is many right wingers are leavign the show in hoards while a lot of efties are joining it, so the exodus of the right isn’t reflected i nthe ratings and he still mistakenly thinks he’s popular with both sides- He’s not-

I’m sorry. I have to say this. Bill O’Reilly was trying to make a point that a lot of folks may have taken offense to because he used the phrase “Bible Thumping” or some such. He is a Roman Catholic and a lot of Evangelicals percieve his saying “Bible Thumping” is an insult of some kind.
I think what Bill was trying to say in an indelicate way was that all Christians who are opposed to same sex marriage must ennunciate their opposition in more terms than “I believe in the BIBLE”. IOW What does the Bible acually SAY about this subject? Does it say homosexuality is evil?
Does it say that you should hate homosexuals? Love sinners? Or does the Bible actually ennunciate what Christians should therefore believe is truth and fight to the death for? Gays notwithstanding.

If you want to convince an atheist or secularoust of a truth you must sell it to them in terms they are prepared to accept.

One does not need the bible to explain the evils of endorsing homosexuality. Indeed it was less than 50 years ago that Homosexuality was considered rightfully to be a devices by the Medical community. A change that was politically not medically motivated.

It's not just happening, it's being directed that way. Hannity's show has
also become a constant feud between the flavors of the day without much of a direction.

I switch the channel when the shouting begins. They can have the stress.

We’re losing the gay marriage fight, badly. Especially with the under 35 set and women. At some point we will have to recognize that there is no longer a moral majority in the United States. It’s not 1980 anymore. Hell, it’s not even 2000. The best route politically IMO is to push to deregulate marriage period. If FedGov is removed from the marriage game, it placates the gays (and popular sentiment) without sullying the sanctity of marriage (a religious civil union). The only other alternative that I see is going full bore Christian socialist and making divorce illegal. Honor the vows, or don’t take them at all.

“We” are not losing any votes, goats or totes. Vote your moral compass. Do the next right thing, no matter what. Live without fear. Ya know, false evidence appearing real. Fear. Live by doing the next right thing, no matter what.

You have good points. The passages in the Bible refuting homosexuality have no meaning for the un-churched. Knowing the full meaning of these readings takes some Holy Spirit discernment which the un-churched lacks and they are not going to listen to any teaching that gets them up to speed.

However, there is the approach that makes the case for heterosexual marriage in terms of natural law. That case, by the way, is the basis of our Constitution. The progressive culture at work in our nation desperately needs to move away from situational ethics and towards understanding of what is good for the human race.

For a good start at the natural law argument, go here:
