During the eight weeks I was there (Ft Leonard Wood), we were taught knot tying, bridge construction, demolition, road building and combat training (rifle drill, weapons firing, close order drill, long tactical marches, etc.). During the knot tying training, I drove the sergeant nuts. Having spent many years in the Boy Scouts, I could tie most of the knots behind my back, which I proceeded to do whenever I was asked for a certain knot.

His Dad, he and his brother, and both my brothers are/were Eagle Scouts.

Nice.

My scout training has paid off ten fold.

I never made Eagle. I was Life when our troop disbanded.

I was in high school then and the troop we were absorbed into was a long drive.

Biggest regret I have. I should have taken the time to get Eagle.

Outstanding, Kathy!

My Dad was quite good at knot-making, having gone through Navy Boot Camp in WWII. He used to show us how to tie bowlines, etc. during his later life. By the time I joined the Navy, there was absolutely no training in knots or, for that matter, any other aspect of marlinspike seamanship.

About the only thing I learned about knots in the Navy was the difference between a square knot and a granny knot - and God help you if you tied your kerchief in a granny knot!
