Despite growing warnings from pediatricians about feeding newborns anything other than breast milk or formula, many mothers appear to be introducing solid food well before their babies' bodies can handle it, says a study published Monday in the journal Pediatrics.
In a national survey of 1,334 mothers, conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 40 percent said they gave their baby solid food before they were 4 months old, with 9 percent starting as early as 4 weeks. Doctors now recommend waiting until a baby is at least 6 months old.

Govt. sanctions killing kids (abortion), but will tell you how you must feed yours. It is all about control.
And the common-sense idea that a baby might actually need to start showing the part to chew solid food with...[known as teeth].... BEFORE feeding them solid food, went out the window, when?
So Uncle Sam just needs to mind his own business.
Still have the same problem. I'm buying farming futures in anticipation of when he becomes a teenager.
While I agree, it’s not Big Govs business.
let me preface by saying, I agree, it is NONE OF THE GOVERNMENTS BUSINESS.
I am neither a doctor nor a baby expert, and I don’t even play one on TV
that being said....
what the article promotes, is what my wife told me back in the early, then middle 80s when my first 2 were little.
she did not give them solid food till late because that is what the so called ‘ in the know’ pediatricians said. So that philosophy has been around for 30 or more years.
lots of her contemporary friends fed their kids early because their own mothers told them to do it that way....and the big bonus was suppose to be to feed them solid food late in the day so they ‘sleep through the night’...
Teeth are NOT required to eat solid food. Trust me.

Yea we just started raising kids yesterday!
I guess my Mother and Grandmother knew nothing about babies,
Gramma only had 14 kids lol. With that many kids the sooner they become selfsuficient the better. All were potty trained early as well for the obvious reason.
My wife and I had our first child in Japan (universal health care). They demanded that she breast feed, but as is common for women, my wife wasn’t producing enough.
I demanded they feed the baby formula, to which they refused, stating that breast milk is healthier. After my daughter went through a few days of severe jaundice, they finally relented and began feeding her. It took a couple of months to get my money back for the jaundice THEY were responsible for.
Bloomberg’s trying to do the same thing.
Another example of government doing something it isn’t supposed to be doing.
Fed my 3 cereal and fruit at 3-5 weeks. They slept t night, were happy, and are productive adults. The CDC can blow it out their ear. Have you ever tried to sleep at night with only milk in your stomach? Doesn’t last long.
“Coming soon: government supervision of how you feed your child.”
I reject the premise. Government control does not necessarily follow knowledge and research and such knowledge and research does not necessarily lead to government controls
States have long shown themselves willing to regulate in the complete absence of sound knowledge and have also been known to refuse reasonable regulation in the face of mountains of evidence suggesting what might be reasonably regulated about this or that.
All things considered— its better to be informed and take action based on the best information possible.

LMAO
And if you don’t breast feed....you’re a bad mother.
Yes, but you speak from experience. [and may I say, you're quite the adventurer. I don't dare try to tackle breakfast without mine. LOL!]
Anyway, maybe it's because my twins were the first/only children I had, but we pretty much stuck to semi solids like cream of wheat and such until I started seeing little toothies come in.
It seems to me that most of the 6 month and 9 month "breast or formula only" babies that I see lately are very very crabby babies, and the parents are quite frustrated.
