THE TRUTH ABOUT SADDAM AND TERRORISM
Human Events ^ | 3/21/2008 | C Holton

Saddam Hussein’s Iraq had extensive ties to terrorist organizations, including Al Qaeda, according to an official report published by the Pentagon’s Institute for Defense Analyses and released through the Joint Forces Command.

That report, Saddam and Terrorism: Emerging Insights from Captured Iraqi Documents, came up with some startling revelations in its 59 pages...

In other words, Saddam’s Iraq had a longstanding relationship with the co-leader of Al Qaeda.

“Is there anything in the captured archives to indicate that Saddam had the will to use his terrorist capabilities directly against the United States?” The Institute for Defense Analyses then provides the answer:

Yes.

Five years after United States forces overthrew Saddam Hussein, the Pentagon has produced a blockbuster report that has been both misrepresented and ignored. That report shows that Saddam’s Iraq had extensive ties to international terrorist groups, both Islamist and secular, including organizations that were part of Al Qaeda.

It has been known for a long time that there was an airliner in Iraq that was used to practice hijacking airplanes prior to 9/11.

That is where the hijackers rehearsed.

There have been several threads lately about whether Iraq was worth it. IMO, Iraq should have been taken out, but not to nation build. It should have been a launching pad to destabilize Iran. Of course, Saudi Arabia should have been treated differently after 9/11, too, and Syria should have gone with Iran. The proper sequence of events is:

1. Replace tyrant with pro-western Authoritarian;
2. Spend 30 years educating and building a normal society;
3. Maybe, just maybe, replace authoritarian with democratic society.

See, e.g., Philippines, Taiwan, S. Korea, Honduras, Colombia, Chile.

Had this formula been followed, and the US been properly vicious in fighting an enemy that seeks our destruction, things would be quite different. We had numbskulls doing our strategic thinking.

Bush’s Defense Department doesn’t have much credibility when it comes to Iraq.

Saddam had no link to terrorists. You are delusional. Saddam was for Saddam. Never is history has there been such a blunder in attacking Iraq. No wmd ( they knew that) no attack on the USA— what a joke. What were we doing? And now we are supposed to go kill Syrians ( for Al Qaeda) and Iranians.? You better strap up girls and gays cuz they don’t mind dieing and together they are hitting about 136 million people. We on the other hand can’t even kill that Wahhabi SOB nidal hassan who killed and wounded 47 people at Fort Bliss. What a weak and perverted country this is . I am ashamed.

Pro or con, at least we will never have Saddam’s psychopathic and sociopathic sons Udey and Kusay to deal with.

It doesn't matter now unfortunately. Even people here on FR fall for the meme "no connection to terrorism, no WMDs".

The Bush administration did a poor job of getting the truth out. Then again the msm was hell bent on destroying GW anyhow.

Want an unconstitutional war built on lies? Look at Libya and obumbler.

The invasion of Iraq was one of the best wars this country
has ever fought, bar none. Now, listen up to any thumb
sucking, bed wetting, pond scum, libtard, walking deadocrat
smigma, trolls who might be tuning in.....The 9/11 attacks
amounted to a message sent by Osama bin Laden and his
fellow Jihadists. They hated the fact that the West (read US)
has economic and, in particular, a military prescence in
the Middle East. Osama stated as much on numerous occasions.
The 9/11 message was for us to get the hell out of Allah’s
hell on earth. Their message method backfired big time.
Our appropriate response was to let them know they were
going to see more, not less of us. It so happened that Saddam
Hussein was just not bright enough to figure we can be
that kind of crazy. And, he was dumb enough to give us
excuses for opening a number 10 size can of whoopass
on his regime. Power, crude power; that’s what those
people understand.....and fear. Further, the invasion of
Iraq is a big reason we have yet to see another 9/11 style
attack on US soil. However, that could change now that
the US is led by wussies. Now, go report to your Dummie
buddies......

You are very new here and your screen name reminds me of some recycled posters over the years. You should spend some time investigating the history of Salman Pak rather than spouting your ignorance.

Bullcrap.
To say Saddam was a friend of Al-Qaeda is either a lie or a sign of total ignorance on Middle East issues.
Saddam was a socialist type secular dictator, he couldn’t allow any clerical influence and for that reason “Saddam led jihad” sounds about as weird as “Lenin led crusade”.
Communists hated church more than they hated capitalists and for that reason Saddam hated mullahs more than he hated US. Iran-Iraq war is a nice part of the story.

Saddam’s ideology was a Soviet-designed “Baathism” which is a mixture of Stalinism and Arab nationalism. “Baathism” is an isolationist ideology which is about uniting Arab people and their riches for Arab benefits and keep “imperialists” out of their lands. No holy wars or global domination. An idea is to grab all the Middle East oil and build a socialist dar-es-salam using profits.

It contradicts ideas pursued by “friends” of America in Saudi Arabia which is an absolute different story. Saudi’s ideology is Wahhabism. Unlike Baathism it is an expansionist ideology which is about a global domination via militant islam. Wahhabis are fully aware they can’t engage the rest of the world conventionally and for that reason terrorism is a justified mean. Other tools are migration and outbreeding local populations elsewhere. Main idea it to take the world over to install sharia and take jiziya from infidels or kill them. Arab nations considered their home base by Wahhabis and for that reason Baathists, who are strictly against islamic influence and expansion, are their primary foes, even ahead of the Jews.

To make things worse, Wahhabis are Sunni types, and Baathists are mostly Shia&other minorities.

Also Baathists are following Soviet model of society with universal secular education, women rights etc. Sunni Wahhabis hate it as well.
This hate is mutual. Saddam executed islamists himself using different sharp objects.

Saudi Arabia is a spiritual center for Wahhabism, Al-Qaeda is a military branch of Wahhabis.

Saddam, Q-duffy, Mubarak were prominent Baathists. Bashar Assad looks like a last one standing.

The problem is both State Dept officials and media are pretty ok with Saudi lobby.

That worked in SE Asia won’t work in Middle East and Africa.

Saddam Hussein’s Iraq had extensive ties to terrorist organizations, including Al Qaeda

Big deal. The US taxpayer armed and financed Al Qaeda to attack the Soviets in the 80's, the Serbs in the 90's, Libyans in 2011, and the Syrians today. The US/NATO has had extensive ties with Al Qaeda since they created them over thirty years ago.

Not only did we pay for it in cash we have to give up our privacy rights, our local police militarized and federalized, and Grandma has to be groped at the airport because Al Qaeda might be hiding under the bed.

You are probably right. Islam warps a person’s mind. However, look at Turkey before the Muslim brotherhood, and Iran during the Shah. You probably have to be more pro-active to get Islam out of a society, and keep it out, and it probably takes longer, but it will have to be done at some point or else we will all end up Muslim or they will all end up dead. There is no in between.

It is a delusion to see earlier Turkey or Iran as free republics. Thus, both nations aren’t a part of Arab world.
