It’s the soviet “money laundering” money that cyprus is taking with the proposed tax. (and everyone else’s in the process) i don’t agree with the taking. but this is such a corrupt country that property rights are the least of their problems. They have allowed their banking system to launder soviet mafia money, used the benefits to fund a corrupt society The bigger issue is that now the EU can now confiscate any property at any time — just like the our US government can. if your stuff is in a government (protected place) they can take your money.

This is, indeed, a very grave crisis, and with implications for Middle East politics as well. Cyprus is linked to the Syria situation, and Russia is motivated to gain leverage.
