“As an alternative, a poor one, of eliminating it.”

Why do you think that elimination of the minimum wage is a poor idea? Why should any government entity have any say in what businesses pay their employees. For a lot of “poor” folks, a job at five bucks trumps waiting for someone who is willing to pay you $10. Thus far, government hasn’t passed legislation requiring that a private employer hire people even if they can’t afford them or don’t need them! But that may be next!

Ah, my meaning was that lowering the minwage was the poor alternative. The overwhelming preference is of elimination.

Sorry, for the poor semantics.

I know families which would be better off if someone earned just a buck an hour on a forty hour week. Government has devastated work.

Actually, in effect it HAS been passed! It has been passed in the form of taxes on business and EBT benefits and all the other goodies and handouts. Of course they are not literally hired and there is no requirement for them to work but business is required to pay them through taxes.
