OPINION: Emergency Manager Won’t Work In Detroit, Hasn’t Worked Elsewhere
CBS -Detroit ^ | Eric Thomas

Posted on 03/02/2013 11:24:38 AM PST by Texas Fossil

It could come Friday, when a cadre of officials makes the announcement from Lansing. It will start, regardless of whether the voters rejected it or not. It will start, and the only evidence we have to predict the outcome bodes very badly. An already tenuous situation could become worse, beyond the imagination of anyone involved.

Oh, NO, Oh NO. It will not work!

That is the response by Detroit Officials and media pundits about the Emergency Manager approach to fixing the financial problems with Detroit.

Yes, the governor did call for the appointment of an Emergency Manager to take charge of the city. Because it became evident it would never be solved locally.

The article at the link is the usual anti-Capitalist rant you would expect for Detroitistan.

Won’t work in Detroit, hasn’t worked elsewhere? Doesn’t that describe a typical resident of Detroit in the first place?

For those not inclined to read the entire article, it comes down to this:
Detroit needs a bailout. A reliable source of funding is required to invest in the “New Detroit” project, which will turn the city into an oasis of urban farming and renewable energy.
That's the solution - gardens and windmills.

What they need to do is get Al "Chainsaw" Dunlap out of retirement, if he is still alive and send him in there to run it.

I'd pay for a ticket to see that.

I did not know about Gen. William Hull or the capture of Detroit in the War of 1812.

Guess we are not close enough to MI to be taught such things in public school. I have been a history student most of my life but never studied that period.

Thanks for the illumination.

Since this is a CBS editorial, it must be that CBS in the past has supported candidates whose policies WOULD work to put Detroit back on a solid footing.

Too bad the people didn't take the advice of the liberal media in electing their government.

It couldn't be that CBS is part of the problem, could it?

What Detroit needs is a Gen. George S. Patton type put in Absolute & Total Command.

Dunlap?

Sunbeam, Scott Paper and Crown Zellerbach, sounds interesting.

I did not know about him, although am somewhat familiar with all 3 companies.

Yep, it will take a tough guy to clean out Detroit. And that is what it will take turn it around. Can you imagine the problem turning Chicago around?

Won’t work. Has as much of a chance as Afghanistan. Pouring money onto evil is like pouring gasoline on a fire. Let nature take it’s course.

It worked in Philadelphia during Fast Eddie’s two terms as mayor during the 1990s.

Obozo will not allow nature to take her course. He must preserve his power base of voters. They are in the inner cities.

We might be able to starve them all into subjection. If they are hungry enough they might have the choice of work or starve.

I had not read about that one.

POLs have destroyed Detroit for the past 80 years, they expect an EM to turn it around and make it prosperous in a couple of years. The only way to do that is to bulldoze it flat.

Recovery will only come after devastation.

General Russel L. Honoré is my nomination.

Let them organize riots and burn the rest of the city down.

We should use Detroit as a National prison city and put all the criminals to live there with one another. Cut off communication with the world, patrol the boudries so they can not escape and close the prisons all over the nation. Let them sink or swim.

This is what England once did with criminals.

All of the Dems need to be slapped hard and fired including Wayne State U and the street gangs put in hard time prison, then the Unions all thrown out.
