I think the rimfire ammo situation is caused by the vast number of people out there who own a .22 rifle - and nothing else.
The main reasons are, it’s cheaper than the bigger rounds, it was easier to find than the bigger rounds, it’s a very effective round, and it’s good to stay current in handling, shooting, sighting, etc.
