This is simply outrageous. Wrestling is one of those which define Olympics, along with marathon. Now 2500 years of tradition goes up in smoke. It should have been the one which stays even when 90% of games are to be cut.

The motivation here is the rid the world of another, primarily, all male sport. Wrestling is a damn demanding sport and is an essential close quarters combat skill. No faggots allowed.

Wrestling? Since when has wrestling been in the Olympics.
Olympics has only three sports as far as I know.
Men’s Swimming
Women’s Gymnastics
Women’s Beach Vollyball
That’s it.

It’s not really 2500 years of tradition, it’s a couple hundred years of tradition spread across 2500 years. Still pretty lame to get rid of one of the few real sports.

Wrestling was boring anyway-just my opinion.
Never could really understand why someone would want participate in a sport in which you subject yourself to be tied up like a pretzel with the potential of your face planted in another man’s sweaty crotch or armpit(s).
Sorry, not my cup of tea!

Yet they're keeping some dumb a$$ made-up event such as rhythmic gymnastics!
My son's wrestled in high school and it is one demanding and skilled sport that dates back to the original Olympics. This is damned shame!

Now wrestling will have to face off with seven other sports that are fighting for inclusion in the 2020 Olympics. The list includes includes baseball and softball, which were dropped from the Olympics after Beijing in 2008 and sports trying to make the Olympics for the first time, including karate, squash, roller sports, sport climbing, wake boarding and wushu. squash??? wushu??? wake boarding???

I’m guessing the worldwide wrestling organization hasn’t been paying bribes at a high enough level.

It should have been the one which stays even when 90% of games are to be cut.I normally don't get worked up about anything that happens in sports (other than in baseball), but you're right. Wrestling is the most ancient, universal sport in history and an integral part of both the ancient and modern Olympics. This decision is an abomination.

Will they drop track and field next?

I didn’t really need another reason to continue ignoring the Olympic Games, but they’ve given me one anyway. Costas, Up Close and Personal, Gymnastics, Equestrian, Beach Volleyball, Synchronized Swimming, corruption in the boxing matches...you get the point.

I agree. And it is a great individual sport. They should get rid of tennis. And beach volleyball.
But it is clear they care most about making money, not about fostering a unique athletic competition.
All I can say is, if the winter olympics gets rid of curling, they will be dead to me. I already hardly watch the summer olympics, although it’s nice to occasionally catch some event like water polo or velodrome bike racing.
And I actually enjoyed the archery this past year.
