The reason why there was no reaction to this news is that everybody's known for decades that Gomer Pyle was gay.
Spoiler alert: So was the first Darren Stephens on Bewitched, and Mike Brady and Alice the maid on Brady Bunch.

The second Darren was portrayed by a homosexual.

Yep - and we don't remember hearing him getting in our faces about it.

It was Richard Cox who was gay (that’s right, Dick Cox), who was the 2nd actor on Bewitched to play the role of Elizabeth Montgomery’s husband, Darren.

Actually I thought Gomer Pyle had married Rock Hudson in Las Vegas many years ago.

2nd one - Dick Sargent was. So far as I know Dick York was not.

Spoiler alert: So was the first Darren Stephens on Bewitched, and Mike Brady and Alice the maid on Brady Bunch. It was the second Darrin Stevens (Dick Sargent) who was gay. So was Robert Reed ("Mike Brady".) However, I don't know about Alice (Ann B. Davis.) Nancy Kulp (Jane Hathaway) on "The Beverley Hillbillies" was also gay. Someone I was surprised to learn about was Raymond Burr. It wasn't obvious with him.

That would be the 2nd Darren Stevens on Bewitched.
