WASHINGTON, D.C. U.S. Senator Roy Blunt (Mo.), a member of the Committee on Armed Services, released the following statement today regarding former U.S. Senator Chuck Hagels (Neb.) nomination to serve as President Barack Obamas Secretary of Defense:
Senator Hagels answers before the committee were simply too inconsistent, particularly as they related to Iran and Israel. The idea that we can contain a nuclear Iran and his view that we should not have unilateral sanctions are just wrong and are too dangerous for us to try.
I admire Senator Hagels service to our country, but for this job at this time, his views do not reflect the kind of leadership that we need from our Secretary of Defense. Thats why I will vote against him in committee and on the floor if there is a vote of the full Senate.
State is already too far gone to be saved. With Defense, we still have a fighting chance. I have never seen a dud like Hagel. He is awful.
I think palpable fear is circulating on the Hill that “if he’s this bad in a hearing he’s liable to really eff things up over their beyond belief. And I don’t want my vote anyplace near it.”
Thus, Hagel is toast..
Good news, indeed. Thanks for the update.
I am surprised as heck on Blunt saying “no”. Maybe there is hope.. lol...Naa..didn’t think so.
