California's Hispanic Population Projected To Outnumber White In 2014 By Alex Dobuzinskis
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - California's Hispanic population will equal that of whites this year before becoming the state's largest demographic group in 2014 for the first time since statehood in 1850, a government report showed on Thursday.
That change in the most populous U.S. state will make it the third where whites do not comprise a plurality of the population, after New Mexico and Hawaii.
The shift is occurring alongside nationwide growth in the Hispanic population, which grew to 16.7 percent of the total in 2011 from 12.5 percent in 2000, according to U.S. Census figures.
It also comes amid a national debate on immigration that Democratic President Barack Obama waded into this week when he outlined his goals for immigration reform in a speech in Las Vegas.
Obama called on Congress to give illegal immigrants a path to citizenship, among other measures, a day after a bipartisan group of U.S. senators unveiled outlines of an immigration reform proposal they will try to pass this year.
The newly released report from the California Department of Finance, which regularly crunches demographic figures, says that whites comprised 40 percent of the state's population in 2010, with Hispanics at 38 percent.
California has 38 million residents in total.
The latest projections indicate the Hispanic population "will be even with the number of non-Hispanic whites by mid-2013," the Department of Finance said in a statement.
"Early in 2014, the Hispanic population will become the plurality in California for the first time since California became a state," the statement said.

By 2020, Hispanics will make up 40.8 percent of the California population and whites will comprise.....

Most so-called Hispanics are white or at least mostly white. Overtime, with the proper policies, they should blend into the rest of the white majority of this country, (yes, even in places like California) forming just another ethnic group like Italians, Greeks, Germans etc. What makes Hispanics so different? What is Marco Rubio or Cameron Diaz? Caucasians with Latin heritage. Why see that as any different from an Al Pacino or a Robert DeNiro, who are both Latins?

Mexicans, the primary hispanics in the land of fruits and nuts are caucasions, ie., white, but of cause the liberal media never calls them white.
That is my point. Latino and Hispanic are not races and they are not ethnicities. They are a manufactured group. They are either Black or White Spanish speakers. Many have illegally entered the country and now demand that we take care of them better than native born citizens.
Texas WILL become purple, then blus within a few election cycles. At some point in the not too distant future, the dems will own all 3 branches of gov’t (actually four, if you count the regulatory branch). Hopefully by then, CA will show the way by collapsing first?
The commie lib “media” trumpeting the successful invasion from the south. This might be “historic” but “historic” is not always a good thing. Our country is being invaded and taken over without a shot being fired.
Perhaps Americans need to be educated on why Mexico hates its own citizens so much.

You obviously have never been to California. The only white latinos here are on Spanish language television.
I’m sure it depends on where one lives.
If assimilation were official government policy, in two generations there would only be a gnat’s ass difference between the bulk of both groups. And from that, as long as there are economic opportunities, a similar political breakdown as exists among the broader American populace (40% conservative 30% moderate 20% liberal 10% clueless).
I understand that the heritage of most Mexican illegals is Amerindian from lower classes (Mexicans like the Germano-Basque Vicente Fox are doing just fine over there), but many are mixed and have already become more American than not (see even George Lopez, for example). By the 2nd or 3rd generation, most will not even speak Spanish that well or at least only use it around family and friends of a similar hispano background.
Point being, that bright line being drawn by the media is not even remotely definable.
Mexicans orginated from Spain.The darker skin came from interbreeding with the local Indians. Spaniards are caucasion.
The black hispanics came from Africa, and most of them ended up in the the Carribian Islands. Black hispanics are classified as negroes. Mexicans are classified as caucasion. Do not let the liberal media turn Mexicans into another race. Hispanic is not a race of man, it is culture.
Black hispanics came from Africa, and ended up in Cuba, Pueto Rico and de rest of de Islands. So once again, Mexicans as a race of man are classified caucasion.
A good friend of mine when I was in the Air Force was a Mexican-American. He was from Brownsville, Tx. He got extra pay for being an interpreter. I asked him were there a lot of Mexican interpreters in the Air Force. He said no. I asked him why. He said most Mexicans that live all over the United States could not read or write the language. He said the Mexican language they spoke was a bastardized version of Spanish and most could not talk to a real Spaniard. Anyway he could speak it, read and write it, so he got extra pay for being an interpreter.
Mexico is a socialist-fascist country, which explains why we have so many mexicans trying to escape from their own country to the US. Unfortunately, the people escaping will import their brand of socialism because that is all they know. Five centuries of fascism is kind hard to shake off. And of course our esteemed politicians and business concerns are more than willing to grease the skids for the free sh!t army invading from the south, as long as they can be suitably exploited for profit and political influence.

The Mexicans I work with, and I work with a lot of them, refer to Americans like me as “white people”. And they call themselves “brownies”.
Now you may labor under the impression that they regard themselves as Caucasians, but they don’t.

They see themselves as a race that is distinct from whites. They are descended from Aztecs and Mayans and other Indian tribes south of the border. But what would they know compared to you? They’re Mexicans after all.
