Actress Ashley Judd and Indy Car driver Dario Franchitti are ending their marriage after 11 years, and, yes, the news impacts Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.

Judd is weighing whether to jump into politics and challenge McConnell in Kentucky in 2014. She was in Washington for the inauguration and attended an event at EMILY's List, the group that backs pro-choice Democratic women running for governor or Congress. Judd even carpooled with Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill of Missouri, who demonstrated she knows how to win in a red state after defeating the self-injurious Todd Akin.

So you do prefer a Democrat to McConnell—this is insanity,

Did you even read what I wrote?

McConnell is a piss poor leader. He is constantly helping the democrats and undermining conservatives at every turn. He looks like a turtle and his way of speaking has no energy whatsoever, just a droning quality brought about by reading speeches that he didn’t write to an empty senate chamber.

If McConnell could be re-elected but would be a back-bencher like he used to be I would be happy to see him re-elected. But as republican leader he is terrible. Ideally I want him defeated in a primary so the republican can go on to defeat the democrat. But either way, he must be defeated so a stronger, younger, more-able, more-energetic leadership can rise up. He won’t step aside and nobody will try to remove him, and even if they did, his senate buddies would rally around him. Therefore it’s up to the people of Kentucky to choose somebody else to represent them in the senate.

Your strategy stinks. Once you get a Democrat in there, they may be there for decades. I am almost to the point that I despise what Free Republic has become because there are too many on FR who believe that we can win by losing. That is nuts. We never give up captured territory--we hang on until we can improve our team.

You probably don't want someone like Scott Brown and are glad we have that wicked fruitcake woman, Elizabeth Warren. If we wait to get 100% of what we want, we're going to be electing Democrats forever. You, and others like you, had better start looking at the big picture and stop with this preference of Democrats to a Republican you do not like. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

Boy you only see what you want to see, don’t you. I don’t have a preference for democrats. I want the democratic handmaidens removed from office.

“We never give up captured territory—we hang on until we can improve our team.”

How exactly to we improve our team by keeping the same worthless people and the same worthless leaders?? I guess we just wait for senate seats to open up and go after those, is that it? That’s how we end up with “republican” senators like Jeffords and Specter and Murkowski. Of course when seats do open up, the NRSC and the RNC support such candidates as Charlie Crist, now a democrat and Lincoln Chafee, now a democrat.

Mitch McConnell is 70 years old and has been in the senate since 1986. Don’t you think it’s time for him to step aside?? If a politician screws you over, do you keep voting for him or her just because there’s an “r” next to their name on the ballot? Isn’t that convenient...for them. No matter what they do, they will never have to face comeuppance for their votes because they have enough sheeple to keep any challenger from tossing them from office.

And just to flip your wig even further, no I don’t want someone like Scott Brown. I voted for him in 2010 when he ran as a conservative then once he was elected he voted continually with the democrats. I left his office blank on my ballot in November and will again should he be the nominee for the special election here. I will support whoever runs against him in the primary. Brown will be another Jim Jeffords who will all of a sudden become “uncomfortable” with the republican party.

And just so you know, I am looking at the big picture, which is to elect as many conservatives as possible, not as many republicans as possible. That means keeping up the pressure on the wobbly ones in office to vote conservative or be challenged. I hope McConnell’s support goes down down down so he’ll be forced to retire. Kentucky just elected Rand Paul two years ago. McConnell’s not the only person in the state that can beat a democrat.

You are a political illiterate and obviously think you're eventually going to be able to create Heaven on Earth and it is NEVER going to happen. We must go for the best we can get. You are the friend of liberalism and you make Democrats' jobs easier.

Do you understand the necessity of a Republican majority? Do you realize how this sausage is made?

There's only ONE strategy that pays off in the long run and that is Wm F. Buckley's strategy of always voting for the most conservative THAT CAN WIN!! Winning is everything, without it, we have nothing.

If you like Democrat majorities, keep doing what you're doing because you're electing Democrats.

To show you how schizo are today's Freepers, I have already seen Freepers tear into Rand Paul--he's not good enough either.

These Freepers are committing political suicide. If I were George Soros, I would help fund Free Republic because there are many on here who are Democrats' best friends. It's time to wake up and stop helping Democrats.

The only concern I have about Ashley Judd is that she is a prominent fixture at UK basketball games, and as popular as UK basketball is in that state, that worries me.

Republican Congressional Leadership is old, tired, and out of fresh ideas. All they want now is to be like Robert Byrd and die in office rather than step aside and let someone younger take the reins.

I have no intention of creating heaven on earth. I’m just wise to the old game because I am not a political illiterate. I’ve seen the same game for years. Elect moderates they tell us. They can win. We need the republican votes so we can control the agenda. And what happens. Republicans controlled the senate from 81-87 and the moderates backstabbed and joined the democrats. Then they controlled it again under Dole and Lott and they too undermined the conservatives. Then I see Mitch McConnell also undermining conservatives. But give Old Mitch more of his type you say. Elect Mike Castle and Lisa Murkowski, re-elect John McCain and Lindsay Graham. George Voinovich and Mike Dewine. Jim Jeffords and Arlen Specter. All the types that prevented Bush’s tax cuts from becoming permanent, joined the democrats in blocking judges and other nominees and in passing worthless treaties. Oh and thank you Olympia Snowe for getting Obamacare out of committee. And then of course she voted against it on the floor to try to fool her constituents.

I’m no political illiterate. Quite the contrary. I know how the game works and I’m not playing anymore. The game of theirs is “let’s make sure a moderate is nominated. If a conservative is challenging, then split the vote to make our guy win. And if a conservative actually gets the nomination, let’s destroy him so he’ll lose the general.” I want to see the worthless moderates lose elections so they won’t be nominated anymore. The democrats have nominated militant leftist after militant leftist. And moderate republicans just don’t have the stomach to battle them. Conservatives do. They’re the only ones who actually fight the democrats. So we need more of them. You may vote for everybody with an “r” next to their name but they’ll need to earn my vote. And if they get it and betray it, they’ll never get it again.

I’m willing to stand on principle and back it with action, or inaction as the case may be. The republican caucus in the senate is much more conservative thanks to those like me who are willing to fight and withhold support should those in office go liberal.

You don't stand up to anything--you're a great big weenie. If you can't have your way, you'll just let Democrats have it. YOU are the one responsible for this mess--YOU and others like you.

I will never, never, never stand back and allow a Democrat win by default--they are evil, wicked people and they must be stopped.

I'm all for moving the party to the right through primaries or persuasion but to deliberately allow a Democrat to win is just short of treasonous.

It is the politicians who have been treasonous. The only power I have against them is to remove them from office and put others in their place, which is what I have been advocating.

You are playing with fire by deliberately trying to replace Republicans with Democrats. This is insane. Do you realize that if it weren't for 3000 "third party" voters in MN, we would not have Obamacare right now? There was a bunch of purists in MN who thought Coleman was not good enough, too and so look what happened. You must have liked the results enough to try to repeat it.

This website is infested with nutcases like you that think a Democrat is preferable to a Republican that is not good enough for you. You, and your ilk are happy to help Democrats send this country right down the tubes.

“You are playing with fire by deliberately trying to replace Republicans with Democrats.”

Once again you read what you think I’m saying instead of what I’m actually saying.

So let me make it perfectly clear to you. I don’t want republicans replaced with democrats. I want the old guard go along republicans replaced on the ballot or in their offices with conservative republicans. And in particular, in Mitch McConnell’s case, SINCE HE IS THE REPUBLICAN LEADER AND NOBODY WILL CHALLENGE HIM, I want him removed from office one way or the other. I think a conservative could beat him in a primary, but only if he is weakened. Otherwise, the whole republican establishment will get behind him to make sure their go along leader remains in office.

I thought Coleman was a good senator. But if he was the republcan leader and was constantly capitulating to the democrats, I would advocate for his replacement with some other republican in the primary.

You will NEVER advance conservatism by deliberately allowing Democrats to be elected if you consider the Republican not good enough and you definitely are advocating electing the Democrat instead of McConnell if it comes to that.

Now, you say Coleman was good enough. Well, there were 3000 voters in MN who pitched the same kind of hissy fit you want to pitch, who decided it was preferable to vote for the "third party" candidates.

Do you not see the evil that came out of their hisssy fits. Because of those 3000 morons, we have Obamacare. Even ONE senator makes a huge difference. You said you refused to vote for Scott Brown, well, Scott Brown voted against Obamacare and you're never going to do any better in MA.

Do you understand the necessity of majorities? We MUST get to 51 senators and it doesn't matter who they are--the crappiest RINO is still better than a Demcorat--any day. That R after the name is what is important. The party with 51 senators controls the agenda.

You're saying you don't care if Harry Reid continues to be Majority Leader--you'd rather have him that McConnell and I'm saying that is STUPID, STUPID, STUPID.

I have no problem replacing McConnell in a primary but be darned careful what you wish for but NEVER, NEVER allow a Democrat be elected if possible to prevent it--NEVER.

And we also have Obamacare because the republicans kept supporting Olympia Snowe in ME, who voted for Obamacare in committee. She’s a republican and we need to keep what territory we have, people like you said. And we have Obamacare because of Arlen Specter. Specter’s a republican and we need to keep what territory we have, people like you said. Let’s not support his challenger in 2004 (his challenger, Toomey is now senator, and Specter became a democrat, what he was all along, despite the “r” next to his name). And we have Obamacare because Ted Stevens, corrupt and senator since 1967, refused to step aside. And the republican establishment didn’t support his primary opponent. An unbelievably republican seat no matter who the nominee would have been. But let’s keep what territory we have, people like you said. And now Begich, a democrat is senator.

I don’t believe that Brown is the best we can do in MA. If he can win running as a conservative in 2010, so can a real conservative. A clear thinking, clear speaking conservative. Brown was attacked in the last election as a right-wing nut even though he’s as close to liberal as you can get and still be a republican. Well we might as well nominate a real conservative then, because otherwise, either way, we’ll get liberal votes in the senate.

I think she is probably more well known (yeah I know) and has a likability factor that would add a dynamic to the election. I think she could win and win big in Kentucky.

I pretty much agree with you. I hold any “conservative” who did not vote for Romney responsible for everything Obama gets accomplished in the next four years.

Anybody who thinks that McConnell, for all his faults, and there are many, is not better than that twit Ashley Judd, needs to have their head examined.

I can only hope the good people of Kentucky are smarter than that.
