Sen. Chuck Hagel backed down this week from previously held positions on nuclear arms cuts during meetings with senators who are considering his nomination to be defense secretary in an apparent effort to sway those concerned about his liberal anti-nuclear views.
Hagel has told senators he is no longer a staunch supporter of the nuclear weapons views of retired Marine Corps Gen. James Cartwright, who authored an anti-nuclear weapons report sponsored by the international disarmament group Global Zero.
“Hagel has thrown Cartwright under the bus about the Global Zero [report] in his meetings with senators,” said a congressional aide familiar with the closed-door sessions.
An administration official working with Hagel on the confirmation disputed the notion the former senator is changing his views during the meetings.
“He is answering questions and clarifying his long-held beliefs…about our nuclear arsenal,” the official said.

He lies. Say anything to get confirmed THEN disarm. Watch. It is going to happen. There is ZERO chance this Senate does not confirm. There is ZERO chance he will not return to his vomit of disarmament.
I think we believe him about as far as Barry! He will say anything to get what he wants and then he will have a sudden change of heart and do his best to screw us and our true allies.
Sure he has changed his mind. Yet the guy who wants him to have this job told Russia to wait until he got re-elected so he would have more flexibility.

Chucky can always go back to his previously held position after he has been confirmed.
I’m beginning to wonder if Hagel has any CORE BELIEFS at all... It’s looking more and more like he’ll say anything to get pass scrutiny and then show his real self once again... much like Obama when he “evolved” ( note the quotes ) from being against gay marriage to being for it to a point where he even mentioned his support for it in his inaugural speech.

I can’t imagine I would trust anyone testifying before Congress trying to get a Cabinet position.
