A Transylvania County man fights off an intruder who broke into his home. It happened around 4 p.m. Wednesday afternoon at a home on King Mountain Road in the Cedar Mountain community.
The Transylvania County Sheriff's Office says the intruder entered an outbuilding and came face-to-face with the homeowner.
Deputies say the man had a machete and told the homeowner to give him money. The homeowner pulled out a .22 pistol and shot the intruder with ratshot.

Hmmmm - a case for moving the “center-of-mass” concept northward a foot or so?
Hmmmm - a case for moving the center-of-mass concept northward a foot or so? QBFimi
Oh, no. The perp was shot in the abdomen, and ratshot doesn't penetrate very far. If this guy is going to keep using ratshot Southward a foot or so will get a much better result.
The noise probably hurt the guy more than the rat shot.
Still the guy was saved because he was carrying.
One more argument for carrying.
I’ll bet from now on the homeowner and his neighbors will be carrying a larger caliber.
Ratshot? I bet that hurts like heck! It should speckel him up. It hit in the face little blue speckels. Ha ha
The responses practically write themselves! Another rat down!
If he was hit in the stomach and the tiny shot got past the belly fat, this guy could be in a world of hurt.
If that qualifies as protection, I got me a full body bullet proof suit of armor, ‘cepting eys, lips, giblets and finger/toe nails.
Rat shot. Will they work on demorats?
I shot a beer bottle with rat shot from about 6 feet away, and it didn’t even crack the glass. It’s only loaded with #12 shot, if I recall correctly.
Transylvania County? It wasn’t Dracula, was it? ;-)
