It seemed that the grocery chains CEO, John Mackey, was that elusive creature for whom Diogenes searched so fruitlessly an honest man. Mackey is currently promoting his new book, Conscious Capitalism, and has therefore subjected himself to a series of media interviews, including one recently broadcast on NPR.
During that interview, he was asked if his opinion of Obamacare had changed since he wrote, in the Wall Street Journal, All countries with socialized medicine ration health care by forcing their citizens to wait in lines to receive scarce treatments. He answered as follows: Technically speaking, its more like fascism. Socialism is where the government owns the means of production. In fascism, the government doesnt own the means of production, but they do control it and thats whats happening with our health care programs and these reforms.
--snip--
He was questioned about his heresy by Norah ODonnell on CBS This Morning. His response to her interrogation was disappointingly craven: Well, I think that was a bad choice of words on my part What I know is that we no longer have free enterprise capitalism in health care, its not a system any longer where people are able to innovate, its not based on voluntary exchange. The government is directing it. So we need a new word for it. I dont know what the right word is.
OK, Mr. Mackey, if its not socialism and its not fascism and its not capitalism, what precisely is it? The humbled Whole Foods magnate made another attempt on Huffpost:
I regret using that word now because its got so much baggage attached to it.
Of course, I was just using the standard dictionary definition.
I think Im going to use the phrase government-controlled health care. Thats where were evolving to right now.

One of my Christmas Gifts was a Gift card for Whole Foods.
Thinking the place would be a hotbed of looney left wing envrirowacky liberalism, I dreaded going there to use my gift card.
I feel a lot better about it now.
“Is Obamacare Socialism or Fascism?”
Or the banana peel one steps on. When the socialists run out of other people’s money, it will become fascism!
Obamacare is TOTALITARIANISM.
ThoughtCrime.
Don’t offend Big Brother.
Exactly! +1
Splitting hairs between definitions of the two is useless.
They both devolve into tyranny in the end.
Kind of like choosing which road to hell has the better scenery.
It IS a “hotbed of looney left wing envrirowacky liberalism”. We have one that my wife and I go to once a week or so. It’s a great store! Awesome beef! But if you ever wondered where a guy with purple hair, neck tattoos and multiple piercings gets a job, look no more.
Obamacare is TOTALITARIANISM.
Exactly
How about anarchist or maybe utopianist?
Ha ha ha.
You are correct!
This is a whole new thing.
It is all the worst of Crony Capitalism, combined with all the worst of Socialism.
Obammunism: Crony Socialism.
The lib reporter's head must have exploded.
Ah. Whole Foods. Where the guy with purple hair, neck tattoos, multiple piercings, and not enough qualifications to work at Starbucks winds up. Would you like an STD with that bean curd?
I refuse to step foot in Whole Foods... I don’t need free range, fair trade, PBA-free, organic starfruit for nothin’. I’ll stick to the staple items available from my local farmer and my own garden.
Very often, if the topic of soybeans comes up, I let people know I refuse to eat soybeans... and rarely do I point out that soy, especially for males, is TOXIC (please do your own research).
What I do say when in mixed company, however, is that I don’t eat soy or processed foods (that all contain soy) because it “Makes people vote for Democrats”.
Shopping at Whole Foods... same deal.
The difference between socialism/communism/fascism is much like the difference between Coke and Pepsi. They are slightly different flavors of the same thing.
Forms of Govt. explained very well

It is fascism designed to fail and give rise to a socialist system, single payer.
You know what I feel a lot better about?
Telling my liberal Birkenstockinlaws that their beloved Whole Foods is run by a.... dun dun DUN!
CAPITALIST!
Liberals try to deny that 0bama is a socialist,
and more to the point, that THEY, as his supporters, aren’t socialists by association,
by pointing at the definition of socialism (gov’t owning the means of production and distribution).
To which I reply, yeah, you’re right, he’s more of a fascist by definition, but the result is the same - no freedom for you and I, total power for him and his chosen few.
