If the Governor of New York, ostensibly one who claims to be a Catholic, actually proposes or endorses such a barbaric law, then Cardinal Dolan will be forced to take definitive action. He must formally excommunicates Mr. Cuomo. Every bishop has a duty to instruct the laity and excommunicate those individuals who defy and knowingly violate church teachings. Its doubtful that Mr.Cuomo would care, but if Cardinal Dolan allows Mr.Cuomo to remain a Catholic and publicly receive the sacraments, then Dolan will have grievously failed the laity and his office. The Catholic hierarchy for forty years has been ruinously timid in these situations. That timidity has confused the laity ,hurt the Church and has resulted in more abortions.
The RCC will always do what they have done: Roll over and act like lapdogs.
