I understand your sentiment, but I have a huge problem with any training requirement, at least a governmental requirement. As you admit, it would be for our own safety, which is the slippery slope of all government enslavement. As CS Lewis says, the tyrant who works for our own good never sleeps....

Look - I have been to few ranges where they rent guns to anyone and quite honestly - I was horrified at how poorly trained a lot of these people were.

I’m not saying a govt course - but maybe something run by the NRA, GOA, or Front Sight or something like that.

When my GF first got her license and the first time I took her to the range - good God - I’m surprised I walked away alive. Thankfully she has become a lot better after much range time and some training.
