You described my road life to a T. I used to stay in the same hotel chain so the rooms would all look alike (like the familiarity of home). Taking "variation" out of the experience and making predicatbility was the only way I kept a sense of sanity especially on a two+ weeker. Sadly, home became the variable I could not manage (what?! the hot water heater went out?? Call the hotel manager!)
I know it, because I've lived it. And continue to do so on a more limited basis now. Now I travel >50 days instead of 150+.
