The Congress that convened two years ago under the war cries of the tea party is slowly coming to an end with a Champagne-less whimper on New Years Day 2013.
The House voted late Tuesday evening, in a rare holiday session, to pass a fiscal cliff bill brokered without the involvement of the GOP majority and with far less than half of their votes.
The bill (HR 8) was amended by the Senate in the early morning hours on an 89-8 vote, carrying language crafted over the holiday weekend by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky and Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr.
The 257-167 roll call in the humbled House concluded close to 11 p.m., with 172 Democratic votes and only 85 Republicans, fewer of their own conference than GOP leaders hoped for perhaps, but more than enough to clear the necessary majority to send the legislation to President Barack Obamas desk.
Am I having a nightmare, or what? Speaker John A. Boehner of Ohio could be heard saying on the House floor, perhaps in jest. Boehner voted for the measure. Majority Leader Eric Cantor of Virginia and Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy of California and Chief Deputy Whip Peter Roskam of Illinois all voted against it. Budget Chairman Paul D. Ryan, R-Wis., who has largely remained quiet during the debate over the last few weeks, voted for the legislation.
Ryan is a jerk and let Biden walk all over him in the debates
WHO are the 85 Republicans we need to PRIMARY OUT of office?
i just called the RNC and let a message of complete disgust with their ineptitude and told them they should be ashamed of themselves for caving.
Own it.

Long past due, what a stupid fight over nothing.
Time to move to the debt limit fight.
Great news for the middle class. The Bush tax cuts were all expiring, but are now made permanent. I am admiring McConnell’s negotiating skills to get this done. AMT gets indexed, Death tax gets indexed, capital gains & Dividends at 15% rate permanently. All good for middle class.
The last time I saw a rout of this magnitude over the majority in the
House was when Reagan steamrolled Tip O’Neil and the Rats who
had the majority in the house.
Reagan did it by going directly to the people.
This time, it was a total collapse in leadership.
What a rout.
Time to move to the debt limit fight so “Boner” can “F” us again?
He sold out to his pal Boehner and the Washington establishment.
Sad. He is not even a caricature of his old self. He now is happy to dwell in the cess pool. Ryan's clock was cleaned by Biden. Guess now he thinks, "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em."
We will lose that too.
Don't worry. Boner & Co. will roll over on that issue, too.
but Ryan just took it , what a dork
Folks....
If you are still making excuses for voting GOP (like “if you vote 3d Party you help a Democrat win”)...you are not a Conservative
Making excuses for Liberal PhonyCons will not cut it anymore
oh boo frickin' hoo.
Remember the old bumper sticker that could be seen on the back of a car or an RV driven by a retired couple that said something like “ WE ARE SPENDING OUR CHILDREN’S INHERITANCE”?
Well now we need a new one...
“ MY LIMITED INFORMATION VOTER CHILDREN’S INHERITANCE IS GOING TO THEIR HERO, 0BAMA!”
Bingo!
“Time to move to the debt limit fight.”
What do you expect Boner to do on that? I expect him to kiss Obama’s butt again after some unnecessary drama, just like he did on this and every other issue.
Yeah, and it screws the “rich”. Woo Hoo! /s
Permanent? Are you in high school? The GOP just made themselves the minority in 2014 and the Dems will raise away.
And not ONE spending cut. A true cut.
Stupid “deal” (like they didn’t know it was coming after setting it up last year?) made by stupid people.
You got that right! Even with his atrocious behavior, & smirking & laughing, Bite-Me still came out on top while Ryan looked scared & intimidated by Bite-Me. And now Ryan & the other RINO Repukes screw us again while voting to fold & capitulate once again, to that RAT bastard commie pig 0dumb0! As much as I hate 0dumb0, I wish we could put a conservative inside him and I would trade for him in an instant over any Repuke at this time. God forgive our country for having such gutless & lack of principles leadership.
BUMP!
Wake up and smell the coffee. Nothing congress did today was good for America.
The GOP must go the way of the Whigs.

You are correct. Let’s replace all the republicans with democraps /Sarc
No John you ARE the nightmare.
This bill as passed saved me a ton of money. I am retired and I am elated at the savings compared to if the Bush taxcuts were allowed to expire or extended on a temporary basis, as was done by Bush & his congress.
85. So many Rino Monkeys to chose from.
I’m hoping there are many credible citizen candidates who will step
forward. If they are articulate, credible and conservative, they will
be supported. If we can throw our support behind one in each district
the DC Astro-Turfers are no match for the Grassroots.
Don't fool yourself, many republicans who voted against did so only to cover their ass to help reelection chances....at least 50 plus.
That's all that matters then isn't it? For the record my family is getting whacked on this deal.
but no......we ll go after the party which controls 1/3 of the govt and virtually none of the media....
go after the rats for once........destroy them....
Little reason to be optimist about that I admit,
but forcing Boner to take on hopeless stupid fights like this doesn't help matters any. None of you saw this coming?? Really?
All those taxes went up 24 hours ago automatically. This fight was not about raising taxes it was about voting to keep taxes the same, or really cutting them certainly as of Jan 1.
The vote NO strategy was doomed to failure. The Defeat of plan B was a win for Pelosi and O.
Speaking of drama, note that not one uber-super-duper-Tea party conservative will challenge Boner to be Speaker. None of them want his job, He protected them all by letting the Dems pass this bill.
This is the sad reality, yes, all those Rs in their safe R districts got to vote their symbolic 'nos'
I understand your frustration losing to O again, but this one was a loser from the start.
Sounds selfish. Doesn’t coincide with your profile.
Something your little mind can't grasp.

My Congressman, Ed Royce, and Gary Miller, who used to be my Congressman, are among the enemies and the cowards. I sure hope they get primaried in 2014. Phil Liberatore ran a spirited primary race against Royce in 2010. If Liberatore runs next year, he has been handed an issue that might resonate with disaffected Tea Partiers, who are numerous in this district.
On the other hand, I'm proud to have worked in the past for Dana Rohrabacher and Tom McClintock, who stood tall.
You make good points — when I remind myself that Democrats don’t care who suffers as long as they’re in control.
Deficit spending is a tax in advance. Do you recognize that?
This country is so screwed..Can't wait for the Republican National Committee call and try to get donations...they will get an earful.
I wish they listed to with states and districts too.
I’d like to see how many of those “yea” GOP votes were from those that retired or loss and will not be back next session.
But a party that comes on FR and says that if I don't vote for their liberal, I'm the sole cause of the downfall of western civilization, then caves on something simple like this? Forget collegial congeniality.
I'm done. Cow:Cabbage.
Own your failure.
Dems were going to push for it, and they did. GOP allowed it. They own it. You own it.

Good post.
AND the news media = the democrat party
We’ve had a dictatorship in the U.S.A. with the news media as the dictators
And they all read it in detail and understood it before they voted?
To hell with the GOP. Bu-Bye.
My America is gone. I go down with every damn benefit accorded!
I have all that military crap behind me. FU Obama, I’m In, Can’t do shit. FU
Michelle Bachmann is a patriot. She also has actually run a private business, as few politicians have.
WHO are the 85 Republicans we need to PRIMARY OUT of office?
I hope the majority of those 151 Republicans who voted no tonight also vote no against Boehner as Speaker this coming Thursday.
Exactly. Only a fool believes the GOP won’t cave again.
As well as a ton of new spending, and no cuts to departments that actually existed. The GOP gained nothing in this negotiation. In fact, they lost ground.
Congrats, you are one of the few who understands the subtlety of what McConnell has achieved.
When Bush signed the tax cuts, they were temporary. Which means the democraps can let them expire and not be accused of raising taxes. Now they are PERMANENT, which means if they try to increase them, IT WILL BE A TAX INCREASE transparent and obvious.
