With financial negotiations all but halted, President Obama was headed out of Washington on Friday evening for his annual winter vacation in Hawaii.
Obama is likely to have a short trip this year; aides said he is scheduled to return Wednesday, a day after Christmas, to resume discussions with congressional leaders on how to avert the fiscal cliff.
"Merry Christmas - because we didn't get this done, I'll see you next week," Obama said after telling reporters he still had hope of striking a deal to prevent taxes from rising on the middle class next year.

OBAMA SIGNED THIS "CLIFF" INTO LAW. If it were so damn important to avoid this "cliff", he would stay and work with Congress on this issue. Do ANY OF YOU still have to work this week?
This "cliff" is NO SURPRISE. The Occupier has known for a long time it was arriving. He continues to delay.
Finally, and this is the most irksome: the media is giving his failed leadership a PASS. INSTEAD, we hear only criticism of John Boehner...from the press AND from Republicans.
Give me a break. This problem is of BO's creation. But no one is pointing out that fact.
The MSM would be screaming that Bush had abandoned the American people during a time of deep financial crisis.
With Obama, he tried as hard as he could, but the evil GOP would not compromise and now Obama needs yet another vacation.

I look forward to the American people being treated to pictures of the First Grifters enjoying surfing and slushies on the sand while folks in the real world battle blizzards and queue up for unemployment and enjoy opening the mail to find out how much their health insurance premiums and other bills are going up next year (50% jump in MEDICARE premium here)

It’s nice and warm and sunny in Hawaii,it is cold and dreary in Washington,AND IT DOESN’T COST HIM A DAMNED CENT TO GO THERE
Now given this free trip to an island paradise where he will have his ass kissed by the locals 24/7 wouldn’t anyone go there?
