I've found that it's incredibly effective to point out that the NRA position is exactly the same one taken by Bill Clinton after Columbine:

Then, when they follow up by blasting the NRA for opposing that plan, ask why they're spending their time attacking the NRA instead of constructively addressing the issue of gun violence.

That’s a great article. I’ve saved it as a PDF.

In retrospect, it would have been rhetorically effective had LaPierre said something like “The best suggestion the NRA has to offer is that the country follow former president Clinton’s advice from 2000 after the Columbine shooting . . .”

That would have put the mainstream media in the position of having to pushback against one of their heroes.
