I was off grid for over a year, and still managed to keep the laptop and a few other things going. But I figured out really damn fast what was important, and what I could lose.

You have to have gasoline for a generator. The question is “How long will you need the gasoline?” I have a friend in NW Arkansas who has a 300 gallon tank. That’ll run a generator for a long time but eventually there’s no gas.
The only sure way to have electricity is a solar system. And that’s expensive. Of course, doesn’t look like this guy spared any expense.
