The head of the country’s most prominent gun control advocacy group on Tuesday called a Texas GOP congressman’s idea to arm teachers “insane.”
“There are 40 people behind me who would love to respond to that,” said Dan Gross, the president of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, when asked at a Capitol Hill press conference about Rep. Louie Gohmert’s suggestion to arm teachers and principals to prevent future school shootings. “But in their spirit, I will do on behalf of them: That’s insane.”
Gross, whose brother was wounded during a mass shooting at the Empire State Building in 1997, was standing in front of 40 family members of gun violence victims, including family members of victims of deadly mass shootings in Tucson, Ariz., at Columbine High School, in Aurora, Colo., at Virginia Tech and the South Capitol Street shooting in Washington, D.C. Family members nodded their heads as Gross spoke.
“Think about what that’s saying,” Gross said. “It’s saying the only answer to violence is more violence. The only answer to guns is more guns.”
Gross said additional weapons at most of the “chaotic” mass shootings of recent years, including his brother’s shooting, and at the mass shooting in Aurora earlier this year, would have only resulted in “more carnage.”
“I would hope the representative is held responsible for irresponsible statements like that,” Gross added.
Among the 40 family members was Andrei Nikitchyuk, whose 8-year-old son, Bear, was a student at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., where 26 people were shot and killed Friday. Nikitchyuk’s son survived the shooting after a teacher pulled him out of the hallway and barricaded the door to her classroom.
“I would offer the NRA: Return this country their kids,” Nikitchyuk told reporters after the press conference. “If they can do it, I would like that very, very much.”
Nikitchyuk, who emigrated to the United States 22 years ago, said he tried to ignore past mass shootings, and said he believed gun owners and politicians would do anything they could to protect children. Now, Nikitchyuk said, the country needs to speak up and demand more gun control.

I am sure that 95% of the teachers in Conn. are good libs and would not even consider arming themselves.
It's actually a very stupid idea because people don't work that way.
Definitely ~ the Brady crowd can relate to money, and to airplanes, but not to school children.

Very funny of the Brady Campaign. The people who were last to privately meet with Obama and Holder before Fast and Furious. Sounds like their version of the ends justifying the means was the wholesale slaughter of innocent Mexicans.
If the principal had a gun in her hand maybe she could have killed the coward or made him flee the building. I heard that she tried to go after him with just her bare hands. Adding another law to the books might make some people feel better but it won’t make us any safer.

What the hell does he think the answer is? A sternly worded letter? Oh, he wants there to be fewer guns? Well, the only guns that will be accounted for will be the ones that belong to people who DON’T want to kill anybody. How will that help?
If training and arming qualified teachers to protect the children is “insane,” why is okay to arm secret service agents to protect Obama’s children? Shouldn’t that also be “insane?”
So all guns not owned by the military or police departments are confiscated. No citizen has a firearm. Not even hunters. No hunting. At some point after the complete disarming of “nonessential” persons, a crazed freak breaks into a school with a butcher knife, kills any teachers trying to stop him, then goes into a classroom, kills the teacher, barricades himself inside, and then proceeds to leisurely slaughter the little kids inside. That scenario has actually happened a number of times in different countries. Yeah, taking everyone’s guns away will work real well. (snicker)
I guess politely asking Hitler to stop murdering Jews would have worked real well instead of the Allies destroying the German army.

None of them should ever be allowed near a deadly weapon, much less handle a brie knife at their next fund raising gala!
