Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman, Connecticut independent, said Sunday the United States should restore a federal ban on assault weapons and also create a national commission on mass violence to examine gun laws, mental health laws, and the link between entertainment and violence in the wake of the deadly shootings in Newtown, Conn., that left 26 victims dead, including 20 children.

Connecticut, like many of the large blue states, already HAS an assault weapons ban and the rifle in question must have been a "compliant" AR version to be legally sold in the state. So what the 'rats might have in mind is scary -- are they going to try to ban all auto loaders?

(Initial reports said that a Bushmaster carbine had been removed from the trunk of the car, but like most of the initial reports, it now looks like this was wrong. It now appears that a shotgun was removed from the trunk of the car, and that the Bushmaster was used in the massacre.)

Mass murder seems VERY much out of character for an individual with Asperger's syndrome -- I'm now wondering if he had recently had a medication change of some sort.

This is just idle speculation on my part with no real basis in fact, but since the national news has been broadcasting idle speculation with no real basis in fact for several days now, I won't apologize.

The .223 Remington cartridge really isn't the best choice to hunt deer, or larger game animals. It's not very powerful. It's more commonly used to hunt varmints like coyotes.

The State of Connecticut already has its own “assault weapons” law, as do the surrounding states of NY, MA, and RI, all of which are modeled after the now expired federal assault weapons law. The assualt weapons laws that are already on the books did not stop this tragedy if only because Lanza didn’t use an assault weapon. And that’s my big concern: Since the CT assault weapons law did not stop this mentally ill wacko from killing people, the next wave of gun control proposals will focus on near total gun elimination (for law abiding citizens).
