The mother probably had no choice. You can’t get a child committed anymore - virtually all the parents of psychotic mass murderers have tried, often just before the kid killed the parents themselves and then went on his rampage.

A lot of times parents find that the only choice is to keep a potentially dangerous child at home or let him join the ranks of the homeless mentally ill on the street. It would probably be better to let the latter happen, but it’s a terrible situation for a parent to be in.

Sometimes “professionals” don’t want the liability of dealing with certain problems — a consequence of a hyper-sensitive, litigious society.
