Leadership should be fired for ruining the nation’s finances and consuming far more of the wealth while delivering a pitiful result. It is the prime example of shameful waste of resources, much like the government education system that highly-paid administrators have driven into the ground.
They’re not a leadership class, they’re a Ruling Class... and by that standard they’re doing just fine.
or as the British press refers to them, our “truly loathsome political class”.
The government class may have failed us but the counties around Washington DC are among those with the highest per capita income. They have become insular and self protecting of the Leviathan State that nurtures them at our expense.
All we dumb sheep have gone astray, and there is nary a shepherd who isn’t a wolf.
Actually, the lawyers have failed us. Pass a law forbidding all lawyers from holding political office, problem goes away. The legal profession is most responsible for our current problems. Pass the restrictions.
It seems to me that we are designed for failure.
The best leaders go into the free market economy, where they can be judged and rewarded according to their true talents and results.
The leaders that are not as good go into politics where your results do not count. Skill at taking credit for the success of others while blaming your failures on others is the most valuable skill of the politician.
Then we put the politicians in control of the business leaders.
What could go wrong?
Intellectual laziness is nothing new. It was present at the birth of our nation, too. People were just as susceptible to the influence of politically-driven media then as they are now.
I forget who said it, but it rings true: "The price of freedom is eternal vigilance." In other words, it is not the responsibility of the leadership class to look out for us. If we value our freedom then we will watch out for threats to that freedom and, when a threat is perceived, we will eliminate it. The problem is that for the last three or four generations, Americans have gotten into the habit of perceiving a threat but doing nothing about it if it does not seem to directly affect the individual's status quo.
The truth is that neither the media nor the government have any more power than what we, the people, have allowed them to assume. When the government takes more power, it is because we, the people, stood by and let them do it before, and have thus emboldened them to do it again.
Certainly the Constitution allows the people recourse and remedy for 'hitting the reset' button on an out-of-control government. But then I consider the fact that there was a sufficient number of intellectually-lazy Americans to re-elect the most inept, indolent, and incompetent president in our nation's history.
But hell, we dance in the streets if voter turnout is more than 30% of our whole population.
So if 70% of Americans don't even care enough to get off their dead asses and vote, and if more than half of the 30% who vote go the wrong way, then it may be safely concluded that there are not enough Americans left who care enough- and who think enough- to restore this country to her original state.
The shape we are in is nobody's fault but our own.

Sometimes I think we’re just one “star chamber” away from stability.
