This is not the Soviet Union, if that law is good enough for the regular guy it is good enough for a politician. No one is above the law.
If the law is too onerous for this country then it needs to be fixed.
He be prosecuted, go before a judge (more than likely a demodummie) and,
#1 The case will be dismissed or,
#2 He will be found “not guilty by reason of insanity”....More than likely the second senairo. What he did was indeed insane. If you are carrying a weapon, you know damn well you have it on/with you.
